I thought down would be best but it would flatten too easily and get too firm. My neck is always hurting and I have to adjust my pillows in the perfect way or else I wake up with neck pain. This pillow is softer on the outside but has support within. It leans more medium and slightly firm but again, squishy enough for me!!! Backstory: I had a harder foam pillow. It pretty much didnt compress much. It worked fine, but after a year or more, i kind of wanted something new. I received a cheapo normal pillow for xmas. It was serta too. But like all cheap pillows, at first, it was great, firm but super fluffy. Then it compressed to less than half its size. and OH MAN. Did it kill my neck. I had serious pain. Queue my search for a pillow. I started searching high and low, reading a ton of reviews. Turns out depending on whether you are a back, side, or stomach sleeper, you need a different pillow. and everyone is different. The search got ridiculous. In the end i said f' it and went with this pillow. The reviews are great, so i took a shot. This pillow has an inner pillow and an outer. After taking out of the box, it of course fluffs up pretty intensely. First few nights, its like sleeping on a cloud. For 2 months, the pillow held the fluff. I was impressed. Around the 2 month mark, i started getting some shoulder/neck pain. The pillow started to lose its fluff despite me trying to fluff it up. When this happens, give it a wash. As per the instructions, I separated each pillow, inner and outer. Zipped outer. Did light detergent, delicate cycle. Dried in a delicate cycle as well. And now the pillow is like new and then some! Super fluffy. I'll report back if things change, but overall this is a great pillow. It saved my neck, and I hope it saves yours too.

Pillow buying without seeing and feeling them is difficult. I'm actually pretty happy with this pillow. I would almost give it 5 stars - it's just that it has a bit more resistance than I like, right out of the box. Supposedly, you can remove some of the material inside and I will try this at some point but, I wanted to try it for a month or 2 as is. Nothing 'wrong' with it and it could, very well, be just what you're looking for. Plus, it seems well made and has no odor.
