Review: The Order 1886= Victim of the expected ignorance of critics and those who hang on their words - The Order 1886 has had a very harsh reception both from critics and actual gamers all of whom are upset because they all had something else in mind. I myself did expect it to be different but once I heard that it was more of a cinematic/ action rather than straight action I readjusted myself. I can't say its been the most enjoyable game of my life or even the best game I've played on the Playstation 4 but I can say I believe its a masterpiece in its own way and succeeded in doing exactly what the developers wanted. Well lets get the obvious fact out of the way. This game is the best looking game ever put on a console. A lot of games really beef up the graphics for the cutscenes and then scale back for the gameplay, you wont find that here. This game looks the exact same both in cutscenes and gameplay. That alone really just makes this game a very unique treat. So many critics even before the game came out were bashing its use of familiar cover based shooter mechanics. Im not sure why however, in my opinion just because Gears of War made cover based shooters more popular doesnt mean other games cant use it. The formula works and was entertaining in those games and yet almost the same combat style here is being criticized. The Last Of Us also employs that same cover based shooting system and that game won Game Of The Year. This game uses it and is labeled as boring gameplay. I had a blast with Gears of War and The Last of Us and I had a blast with the action in this game as well. I found the characters to all be quite interesting and the story was well rounded and kept me interested as well. Galahad is a very fun character and I enjoyed getting to see this man fight his way through the twists and turns the story takes. He might not have the personality of Commander Shepard but he is easily one of my favorite characters in a video game. The game truly does feel like a movie from beginning to end. There's intriguing dialogue, likable and not so likable characters and to top it off the game has FANTASTIC score. I will say I expected a little bit more use of the Lycans which is one of the things that first intrigued me when the trailer first came out but Im not gonna get pouty about it. Another big complaint people have for some reason is the use of QTE's . This is a very common complaint in a lot of games and I dont understand whats so bad so I wont go into it too much suffice to say this game has them. To me they offer a fun alternative to the usual pointing and shooting but for some reason the use of them in games is like a guaranteed way to get people's feeling hurt. Pay attention and you might have to retry some scenes a few time but its all part of the challenge. The game is short but feels complete regardless and didnt feel short to me. i finished in about 8 hours on normal when it ended I was wanting more. Anyways Im not very good at writing these but play the game for yourself and make up your own mind, dont let desertcart's very unreliable review scores or critics scores sway you. We all have our own opinions so play it and make your own.
Review: Really awesome experience! - I really, really liked this game! So much so, that I didn't want to put it down, and almost finished it in one sitting. There were so many moments in the game when I went "OMG I can't believe they pulled that off... in a game!". The whole thing is so cinematic, the production values are miles above any game to this date, and the graphics as well, of course. The attention to detail is just insane. Everything just looks right. Pretty much every object in every scene looks real, the cinematic motion captured animations are flawless, the facial animations and speech animations are the best I've seen as well. I could go on an on. It's visual orgasm. I spent hours just staring at walls cause they were so beautiful. My favorite scene graphically is the round table room, which I walked around endlessly and stared at every detail, and the game lets you do that. The point of all of the above, the production values, and flawlessness of the presentation, all add up to a super immersive experience. I really felt like I was in a movie, because there weren't any janky distractions, everything's just real. I'm playing Last of Us Remastered now, and it's ugly by comparison, full of artifacts and old gen looking. As far as gameplay, it's pretty much the same game. Pretty much the same mechanics. And I still like the Order better as a game and as an experience. I can't believe last of us is so highly rated, yet the same game done a lot better gets a bunch of hate. Just because it's shorter? But it's so much sweeter! The Order has werewolves instead of zombies. It leans a bit more heavily on quicktime events. But God of War is all qte's and everyone loves it. Makes no sense. I'm not sure how I feel about the boss fights being all qte's. It was frustrating at first (I'm not an avid gamer), but by the end I got the hang of it and I think I passed the final boss battle without dying once. I can't say I didn't have frustrating sections that I failed a dozen times before I figured it out. Wasn't all gravy, but if I was a gamer I probably would've figured it out easier and had a smoother experience. Versus Last of Us, I felt like I was lost less. Last of Us often doesn't give you a hint for your next waypoint (usually a ladder necessary to get somewhere, but you don't know where), while The Order usually gives you a good waypoint hint when you ask. Coming away from the experience I had a pleasant feeling. The story comes together at the end and is interesting enough. I wanted to play it again. I think everyone should play this game. It's a benchmark. And thermite gun!!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ This isn't supposed to be the next gears of War!
*by T***Y on February 21, 2015*

A lot of the negative reviews seem be a little harsh on the order. Don't misjudge this game for being what it is rather than being what you want it to be. On the surface it may seem like any other cover based third person shooter like a gears of War but that's not what this is or what it's trying to be. Ready at dawn studios have said from day one that the game they set out to create was going to be more of a cinematic experience and that's exactly what they've done. I've read many complaints about the pacing and being forced to walk rather than having the freedom to move at whatever pace you want. It's a deliberate choice by the developers to help sell the cinematic feel they are going for. Not to mention it's more natural and realistic. Look at it this way people in movies don't run or do a slow jog in every scene that would be silly. It's linear by design and If that's not something your into that doesn't mean it sucks it just means not for you. Yes Sony could've done a better job properly advertising what type of game this is but let's face it theyre in the business of making money and they are going to try and appeal to the largest possible audience to sell their game. It was a misstep that sadly seems to be hurting a truly fantastic piece of art. Another complaint I've seen over and over again is about how short the campaign is. I don't have an issue with the games length. Just because it can be completed in 7-10 hours doesn't mean it's a rip off being a full priced game. If you go to see a movie your going to pay the same price for a film that's 90 minutes or 2 hours. I understand that gaming is a more expensive hobby than being a movie buff is so I can see why its a disappointment to some people expecting a longer experience. All of that aside games really should be judged on their quality rather than how long it takes to complete them. There was a lot of hard work put into this game and it shows. It's visually stunning. The art direction is beautiful and the environments have been meticulously crafted unlike anything I've seen before. The voice acting is great. The weapons are fun to use and each one feels different. So basically to wrap this up. If your just looking for a non stop over the top action shooter the order isn't for you it's simply not that type of game. It's not a masterpiece but it really is something special and worth playing.
