I was planning on using it to drill a few difficult locations. One was through the top plate on my wall, the other was through the joists on the ceiling to push the wire through. Well, for the top plate, the wall was an exterior wall and had insulation in it. I tried to use this to drill up through the plate in the wall, but it just got caught up in the insulation. I was also using a bumper ball and placement tool. So that didn't work, I ended up cutting a hole in the ceiling and drilling down from above. As for drilling through the joists, turns out I didn't need to. I didn't realize I have engineered truss-style joists in my ceiling, so no drilling necessary. So in the end I didn't need this bit. But I will say it is very good quality and not too hard to use from what I've seen, so for that I will give it five stars. I will recommend you get the placement tool if you're using it on existing walls. The placement tool is very useful for getting a vertical hole (and not drilling through your siding). I almost wish I needed this bit for something. Grab any bit set with large enough bits to compare to your 12-2 cable. Find the smallest bit that is larger than the cable with insulation, etc. on it exactly as you intend to pull the cable. Standard 12-2 romex ought to go through a 5/8 inch hole, but I would prefer to use a 3/4 inch hole if I could. I have samples of two kinds of 12-2 that would need at least a 1 inch hole due to the sheathing on them. Be sure to allow for any fittings that you plan to pull (which is sometimes necessary but almost always a bad idea). **Q: How could this work with your extensions when this has a triangular shank and the extension has a 1/4 hex end ?** A: It appears that the extension grabs the drill bit with two set screws. Oh well, I will save it for another project. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ I Broke the shaft end off *by D***N on September 11, 2020* I really liked this bit until it got caught on a stainless steel plate the was in the material i was drilling. the hole in the shaft that goes into the drill was a weak spot and snapped off when the drill violently bucked at the steel as it tried to drill through the edge of that steel plate. I take the blame for the bit breaking, however, I wanted to share my experiance with others in case they might find it helpful.
