...and that is actually the whole point. The good inspector has his failures, chief among them being an addiction to alcohol and a knack for accidentally solving the various crimes after arresting the wrong person. It sounds like a comedy; it is not. Inspector Morse is a tragic figure, and the entire series could end up being a depressive twaddle, but somehow it works. Despite our best... efforts? thoughts?... we find Morse (and Lewis) to be likable, and we never stop hoping for their eventual wins, successes, and minor victories.These are good books. They are just as long as they need to be, and no longer, and this collection is exactly the right thing at the right price.

I missed all the Morse PBS airings but recently read a random book from the library...and was hooked! But the library didn’t have the entire series, so I splurged and bought this set. When I opened the box, I felt like a six-year old at Christmas. The library copy was a small, old, yellowed, paperback. These are the larger “trade” paperbacks, so the type is easier to read with bright, clean pages. So very pleased! They don’t come with a special box to hold the set, but they’ll look nice in a bookcase.Slight cons: The covers each have the same colors and type with minor differences in photos. I wish the spines were numbered in chronological order of publication so they are easier to tell apart. But there’s a list on website as guide.

The books were crisp, unused and in perfect order.The content is just the best reading ever.

I like dexter, so this set appealed to me.I discovered that my son-in-law likes mystery book.So, I got this series for him. Worked great!

Let's see; at under $4 a book, why wouldn't you buy all of them this way? The stories are good and it's fun to read the originals and compare them to the Inspector Morse TV show.

The books came promptly. The box them came in was damaged…probably could’ve used more tape. The US postal service is pretty rough on packages. But the books were in perfect shape! Thanks!

I watched the series twice before I started reading the books. I think I like the books better.
