The Select offers control of up to 59 locomotives and, providing power is available, can run 10 locomotives at any one time. The Select can also operate 38 accessories including point motors when used with the R8247 Point/Accessory Decoder or the R8216 Point Decoder. The stylish design presents all the control features available from the Select at the operator’s finger tips. Locomotives have ID numbers allocated to them from 1 - 59 and similarly accessories are given numbers of 61 - 99.LCDThe display screen of the Select shows the number of the locomotive or accessory that is in the process of being selected. This number will flash until the Select button is pressed. The number will remain on the screen until another locomotive or accessory is chosen. The screen also displays various other functions and operating instructions that the Select features.Rotary ControlOnce the locomotive required to run has been ‘called up’ and the direction of travel has been decided the model is ready to go. By turning the rotary control clockwise the locomotive will move off with the speed being proportional to the amount the control knob has been rotated. If an acceleration level has been chosen then a more gradual acceleration can be expected depending on the setting. To slow the locomotive down, the knob is turned anti-clockwise and, similar to the acceleration programming, if a deceleration setting has been coded into the locomotive the model will gradually slow.PowerThe Select is powered by a 220v AC wall-mounted switch mode transformer that indirectly supplies 1 amp 15v AC power to the track as well as 15v DC power to an uncontrolled outlet which can be used as an alternative electrical source to provide power for point motors and accessories in the traditional analogue manner. When I did open it I found the power supply to be 220 volts not 120, completely useless to me. ### ⭐ comes with 220 english plug *by K***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on June 19, 2021* I wish you had said about the english plug ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Basic DCC controller - works well but some usability issues *by D***3 on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on February 25, 2016* This unit works perfectly fine for a quick run of a occasionally used DCC train or layout. It will control a large number of digital accessories and also is able to control sounds and the like for suitably equipped locos. It is however quite basic compared to the Elite. In particular the functions (sound) controls to do not operate as toggles, rather as flags. What this means in practice is that to blow the whistle on a TTS loco twice you need to specify the function, make the sound, then specify the function again a further two times to make it do it again. Takes a bit of coordination.You can control multiple locos off the single controller at the same time however this does get interesting when they are running at different speeds. It's a feature of DCC more than the controller though.It's a little lightweight and the buttons do feel a bit cheap. The build quality though is Much better than the standard analogue controller Hornby ship in non DCC sets.In my opinion this a controller for occasional use. If you are truly looking to get into train layouts then I would advise getting the Elite or the eLink (which is the powerful yet frustrating PC-based control system. The Elite allows more flexibility and options and with the display makes it easier to keep track of things. The Select can do the same, however it's much more complicated.Note that old locos can be run by this controller (only one, on channel 0). They make a high pitched noise owing to the voltage differences however they DO work.
