Read for tips and insight... *by B***Y on Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2015* I would have given it 5 stars if the size of the two plates (wall and TV) was more clearly documented. But that aside....32-60" full motion mounting bracket. Monoprice item 108588, Amazon item B008RGHM4Q color Black.... just wanted people to know specifically which item I'm reviewing since Amazon mixes items together sometimes.Installed this product on Dec 29, 2015 in our Master Bedroom. I am very handy and can maintain and fix just about anything in and around our home. I enjoy these types of projects. And I am a perfectionist. I like all of the small and finer details done right. But to be clear, I have never mounted a TV on a wall before... nor have I had to do all of the prep work (that is necessary in most cases) before the TV can be mounted.This is a solid, sturdy and effective product. Quality seems to be high. Item was left at our doorstep while we were not at home. Box was flat on the ground... I mention that particular point because when I went to lift the box up, it was SURPRISINGLY heavy and I almost lost my balance as I attempted to grab it from the far end of the box with just one hand (I'm 45 and in good shape... so I don't fall over easily). I knew what was in the box, but it weighed much more than I expected. Just making the point that this item is solid.. and for its purpose, that is a quality you want it to have. But it does mean that you want to install it properly, and only in studs. (Concrete, stone and brick walls are a diff story and I cannot comment on that type of installation)PRETTY PLEASE - DO NOT INSTALL THIS IN DRYWALL ONLY - the lag bolts need to grab into wood studs behind the drywall. I know there are mixed opinions on what can and cannot be attached to drywall. People will say its based on the age of the wall, the weight of the item, the number of attach points, thickness of the wall, downward pull force, E=MC2, etc... Listen to me... this item by itself is heavy enuff to cause concern of detaching from drywall on its own. Add the weight of a TV and you're sure to be sorry sooner or later. REMEMBER - this is a full motion mount... it can be pulled AWAY from the wall, kinda-sorta of like an accordion. That creates a LEVER situation, with the weight of the TV pulling away from wall, down towards the floor. A lever is meant to make moving large/heavy objects with ease. You do NOT want a lever forcing you new TV off of the wall.... drywall will not be able to support this force/pull.Our studs are 16 inches apart from each other. This item attached to two studs. I wanted to hit three studs and thought this item would reach. I misunderstood the product dimensions, which seemed unclear to me (hence the reason for 4 rather than 5 star rating). But the two stud mounting seemed solid to me once I completed the installation and therefore I did eventually proceed to attach the TV.I attached the wall plate to two studs using all 6 of the included lag bolts. There are only 4 bolt holes on the mounting plate (2 for each stud). I drilled another hole between the 2 holes on each side of the plate. 4 bolts is "probably" enuff... I like to be EXTRA certain of stuff like this. And besides, they give you 6 bolts anyway, and its not difficult to drill extra holes in the metal plate. I don't have lots of tools... but the drill bit set I have had a bit for metal drilling and of the correct diameter. I recommend the extra two holes for safety and security. Time to drill extra holes in the plate - 5 min maybe.One reviewer said the bolts snapped while tightening them. Yes.. this can happen. Normally this will happen only if you don't first pre-drill bolt pilot holes in the wood studs before trying to "screw" in the bolts. Wood is solid and can splinter and the stud can crack/split if you try to screw something into it without predrilling a hole to make room for the bolt. Plus it adds WAY to much pressure around the bolt, requiring you to tighten it with more torque (pressure)... often more than the bolt can bear. Then... pop... broken bolt. Predrill holes with a drill bit that is the same diameter as the inside of the bolt threads (the part of the threads closest to the inside of the bolt shaft). If you predrill TOO BIG of a hole then your lag bolt will have nothing to bite/grab into in the stud, so be careful when you drill. But predrill you must or you will split the wood or break the lag bolt. Don't make the same mistake as others.I did not use any drywall anchors at all, even though I could have done so somewhere in the middle of the wall plate. What would have been the point after using 6 lag bolts (3 in each stud).TIP 1 - once you determine where your studs are with a stud finder... use a narrow but long nail or knitting needle to poke thru the drywall on the outer edges of the stud to ensure you know EXACTLY where the stud begins and ends. This way you can determine the true center of the stud when drilling your pilot hole in the stud before you ratchet in lag bolts. Be careful when poking thru the wall so that you avoid poking into a live electrical wire! Poke very gently and pull back if you encounter resistance after breaking thru the drywall layer... or perhaps use a solid plastic or other non conductive item to poke thru.... or get a REALLY GOOD stud detector that you can trust to find the true edges of the stud.TIP 2 - I removed the TV mounting plate from the two, full-motion arms before I attempted to hold up the wall mounting plate to the wall as I marked the drill holes (yes.. you will want to hold the wall plate up to the wall as a "template" since Monoprice doesn't include a paper template (which they should!!!). Removing and reattaching the TV mounting plate is so easy and so worth the convenience it gives you, and the weight reduction during the early part of the installation process. It requires removing 5 bolts, and a bunch of metal and plastic washers (pay attention to the order in which these washers are installed before you remove them!!! you want to put them back in the same order otherwise you wont be able to easily adjust the TV leveling later!) Don't be afraid to remove the TV plate for fear of not reattaching properly later. If you can attach the wall plate to the wall, you can handle removing and reattaching the TV plate!Some people said the bubble-level attached to the wall plate was not accurate. I didn't have a problem with it - THOUGH I did have my own trusted level that I used to double check. I recommend you double check as well. BUT - note that if you do mount the wall plate slightly askew, the TV plate is (as I implied above) slightly adjustable (rotatable) and can be rotated to compensate for minor misleveling.I did have to do some minor wiring work to add electricity behind the TV (I cannot live with dangling wires) and for the HDMI cables and TOSlink audio cable. Please note that some walls have horizontal cross beams in between the vertical studs. These are known as fireblocks. They serve a very important purpose... they intend to prevent air from moving across wide wall spaces BEHIND your walls in the event of a fire. USE A STUD DETECTOR to determine if you have fireblocks in your wall because you need to drill thru them if you want to move outlets up (or if you want to attach wire to an existing outlet to add an outlet several feet above the existing outlet). If you cut thru the fireblock, electrical code requires to COMPLETELY fill that hole with approved fire block / fire resistant caulk. Comes in red and grey colors at my local Home Improvement store in central Florida area. If you don't follow code with this or any of your wiring work, your insurance company can deny fire claims. Don't risk that...... and DONT run your TV or soundbar electrical cord behind your wall <--- code violation!!!! That's why people add additional outlets behind their TVs, to meet electrical code. You can buy residential, 14 gauge 2 wire Romex cable at a home improvement store (it will have a ground, a black and a white wire in the insulating sheathing) and relatively easily wire your own outlet. Otherwise, get a pro to help.I fully recommend this mount for your TV.I mounted a 55" Vizio M55-C2 TV. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Mount is sturdy, instructions and hardware are not useful *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2022* I have no concerns about the stability of the mount - full points to Monoprice here. Once it's installed you should have no concerns.However, the installation instructions were poorly thought out: I missed the step before step 1 (!) where you should put on the tilt lock knobs, and as a result they are on the inside and basically impossible to reach. No warning about this in the instructions.The provided hardware for mounting to the TV did not fit - the bolts were not long enough and the spacers were too big.
