I was thrilled when I discovered AeroGardens and realized how easy it is to grow herbs and salad greens, even in a house with very little natural light. This week I acquired brand new redesigned AeroGarden Bounty 2019! It took a couple of minutes to unpack everything and less than 5 minutes to set up Bounty: - put the telescopic light pole into the unit and light hood on the pole - plug in into outlet - Add water (appx gallon of tap water, let it sit for few hours to de-chlorinate) - add the recommended amount of nutrients (included) - drop in the seed pods (herb packet included), cover with domes (included) - Press "Quick Plant" button, select Herbs and set clock and timer for when you want the lights on/off DESIGN: clean and sleek, very different from older models and a welcome modern look LIGHTS: can be temporarily turned OFF, ON or DIMMED- I love this feature! Generally herbs will last 4-6 months, salad greens will last 3-5 months, tomato and pepper plants can produce for well over a year and flowers can last even longer than that! Is this a good unit for that? I'm very new to this. Thank you.** A: It will depend on the variety of lettuce. The plants are close together - like 3 to 4 inches. You can get up to about 24 inches high. With 9 seed pods, you could leave some empty to get more room between your plants. They do sell several lettuce seed pods so you can grow lettuce - I have not tried this. I am growing herbs and they did well until the machine failed to tell me it needed water and they had a drought crisis which they never really recovered from. Mature plants go through a LOT of water, and I use distilled, so be sure to keep a lot handy and check several times a week no matter what the machine says.
