A: Hi, the device is on a standard mother board material.  Just as you would find in most desktops.  It is approx. 1.6 mm.

**Q: Is this msata ssd compatible with and will work correctly in a lenovo t420s ?**
A: yes the t420s has a dual function wwan/msata slot. the SSD should work but it will be limited to sata 2 speeds.

Performance would be much better than the spinner the laptop came with. solid state ssd drives in sata3 mode out perform it and the differences are noticeable. For set up, make sure that all the drive modes enabled in bios. Driver changes are not automatic. You want the right Intel drivers installed at boot time if dual booting or your windows partition will not recognize it if booting from another drive. I had an empty expansion slot, and I had to fill it. mission accomplished.
