We aren't dumb parents, we have limited any fluids after dinner, made sure that he tried to go several times in the run up to bedtime. We did the waking him up from a completely dead sleep before we went to bed to go, only to have a completely full pull-up in the AM. We talked to our pediatrician who we are usually lock step with, and she discouraged an alarm saying that it would be a waste of our money and that he would simply have to grow out of it. But - our son really wanted to progress out of this phase, and I was tired of buying pull-ups for a seven year old, so decided to give this alarm a whirl. The reviews on here are mixed, but I have a close friend that used it for her two kids with success which is why I chose to buy this one (and how I heard about this specific model in the first place). We followed the method that I think the (very poorly written Chinese) instructions laid out, but that other reviewers here did. We had our son wear a pair of underwear, taped the sensor on and put another pair over that and then pajama bottoms. What was interesting is that I learned that our son was peeing the bed at exactly 1:10 AM and 4:30AM every single night - very consistently. I have no idea why, he wasn't getting water in the middle of the night, just how his body works I guess. The first few nights are rough. This alarm is LOUD (which I get is the point). It took some getting used to, and honestly there were several times at first that my kid is such a deep sleeper that he had basically a smoke alarm level noise going off next to his head and he wasn't waking up. We'd get him awake when this happened and take care of things. This rough phase (having the alarm go off, but he's already soaked his PJs and the bed) was only about a 2-3 week period and was not every night. Some nights he's wake up the second the alarm went off and be okay, some nights he'd sleep through it, pee too much and then wake up and we'd need to change him and the bed. Now - We are about seven weeks on the other side of this and what a difference. I did think that this alarm would teach him to wake up when he needs to go, but what has mainly happened is that he is able to hold it all night. We are still having him wear it, and I will hear it go off at like 530, but he just goes and is totally self sufficient. At that point in the night, he just removes the alarm and goes back to bed and is totally fine. We are so close to being done done with it, but I haven't changed wet, peed on sheets or PJs for weeks. Summary notes: -Save your self the headache and do the thing where you make the bed with a waterproof mattress pad, a set of sheets, another waterproof mattress pad and another set of sheets over that. Having to just rip off a layer of bedding at 1:00AM vs changing a bed is night and day in my ability to go back to bed (and in our case, our boys share a room and the one with the alarm is on the top bunk). We limited stuffies and other blankets etc as much as possible in the initial phase to make bed changing easier. -Having the clean underwear and fresh pajamas ready to go in the bathroom for the start of things when they aren't waking up in time and need to change clothes helps so much. Anything to reduce nighttime fumbling around. -THe part that detects moisture is SENSITIVE, which is good cause that's the point. Have your kiddo have gone pee and done all that before putting this thing on, or you may risk a false alarm. Our Kiddo isn't a warm sleeper so sweat triggers were never an issue. I'd think that putting a pull-up over this thing as some have suggested would really lead to false alarms. Plus - be done with them and give your kid the chance to fail a little. -On that above note - we traveled some during this or had guests that we didn't want to wake up. We did just use pull-ups in those cases. I do not feel like there was any regression. It actually gave me a metric of how much dryer he was in the morning vs before the alarm process. You don't need to feel like you have to have 2-3 months of uninterrupted time to tackle this. -I don't know the appropriate age for this. I will say that my kid is seven and half. It's been immensely helpful for me that he can tell time and put the alarm on and (more importantly) take it off on his own. I really thought the only problem was that it was too easy to unplug, but was awake with another child in the early hours this morning, heard the alarm go off for approx. 5 seconds and then turn off...I assumed he'd unplugged it again. When a few minutes passed and he hadn't come out to use the bathroom, I went in to his room and found my son asleep. I went to wake him up, pulling back the covers and discovering that the Chummie's lights were flashing, but there was NO SOUND OR VIBRATION. The sensor was still plugged in, the alarm was just not sounding like it should. As he rolled over, all of a sudden the sound and vibration restarted. He'd wet when the alarm first went off and was soaked. I have no idea how long it's been malfunctioning like this, but no wonder my son didn't associate that it was time to wake up if it wasn't alarming consistently. While I had no issues with the tapes sticking to undergarments, I do wish that they weren't labeled the way they are. Después de ese brevísimo periodo de aclimatación se empezaron a ver resultados rápidamente.
