It takes place in New York. Love the Manhattan penthouse that Claire Gregory (Mimi Rogers) lives in It takes a look at two classes of people, the very wealthy from Manhattan, and the lower class working people who live in Queens. It tears apart a good recently promoted detective and his family, but yet the wealthy socialite didn't have intentions for things to turn out the way they did. It all happens because the detective is assigned to guard her because they're thrown together by a murder she witnessed. The murder victim is her very oldest and dearest friend. The murderer marks her for death so that she won't testify against him and in so doing, the murderer needs to threaten the lives of the detective's family (his wife and son) so he can get to the socialite. A lot of suspense follows and hearts are broken in the end. This movie has everything and most of all it's very real. The acting was excellent as well as the storyline. Review: Believable Berenger - perfect casting - When I saw this movie in the theater, all I could think of was that this is going to be a classic film that will be featured in and studied by lots of film students -- probably in the same tradition as Dustin Hoffman's casting as "The Graduate" and Humphrey Bogart's "Casablanca." The opening credits and the film score are perfectly suited to this film and the action moves from the first scene to the explosive conclusion -- Tom Berenger is perfect as the cop/husband with a good heart who gets blind-sided by a woman who needs his help -- and once more, Tom falls into the same trap as Dustin and Humphrey -- following your heart, and running into a brick wall. Berenger is so believable as the man who wants to be helpful and finds that all he values as a father is about to be lost and it tears him apart. I'm so glad that this movie was made without all the CGI effects that are currently the norm -- this movie featured characters that you care about and are perfect for a film about New York city.
