I had my 2nd daughter on 11/18 and i have "shallow" nipples, a lactation consultant told me, and so we tried and tried to get my daughter to nurse from me (while i also pumped after each nursing session, every 3 hours around the clock) and she had a really hard time latching to me. Because it was my 2nd child and i had such an ample supply with my first daughter (whom I successfully breastfed til 14 months using a nipple shield the entire time) and i was pumping every 3 hours this time around as well my milk came in within 48 hours while i was still at the hospital. I brought one with me (knowing i may have the same issues this time around again) and started using it and it was the solution for us. Baby was not latching from the time of birth till a month. After using shield, it took sometime but slowly baby started latching. Used it for 2 weeks and after that baby strated drinking milk directly.
