To test the calibration I measured out 50 mL water and 5.00 grams sugar to make a 5/55 or 9.1% solution by weight. The meter reads 9.2% on this solution (after adjusting for the +0.2% zero offset on plain water). I am satisfied, as the fine scale marks are 0.2% apart so you can't expect much better than that. There is an offset adjust screw, but to be careful you would always check the zero offset anyway. Did not give it 5 stars because the directions did not explain how to use the Brix results. Had to research online and it took me a while to find information on how to interpret my results of sugar content. I'm still not 100% clear in this regard. Would have been nice to see some examples in the directions of how to interpret the Brix outcomes. For example, sugar content and alcohol %. Next batch will test after second fermentation and before i drink it (at room temp post refrigeration). This is not necessary with a refractometer vs. a hydrometer.
