Im interested but im not too familiar with tools** A: A 1/8th drill bit. You want a something for metal, avoid going cheap because you could break the bit, damage your barrel, or gas block. Something that's cobalt coated, great durability and strength. Depends on what drill you have, doesn't have to match the brand of drill but compare prices **Q: This is a useless tool! ?I has nothing to do with lining up with the Gasport to dimple on the other side** A: It is used to mark the barrel for the set screw and also dimple helps set screw keep position all the better. HB Industries and Uniquetek make alignment nipples but I don't quite care for them. They are, however, simple and inexpensive. **Q: Does this tool line up the gas ports on barrel and gas block?** A: No, I measure the gas port in the block with a caliper. The port in the block is always very close to the barrel port, and the port in the block is over sized so it doesn't have to be perfect. Then I scribe a center line on the outside of the block and one on the barrel. Put a set screw in the block line up everything and tighten the set screw enough to hold the block. Install the tool, strike it sharply with a SMALL hammer for your drill mark. I take everything off and use a punch on the dimple to keep the bit from walking. Use a small bit to start and then a larger one for your dimple. Be careful not to drill into the bore. You will RUIN the barrel if you do!!! Red lock tight the set screws and call it good. **Q: Is it necessary to dimple all the holes?** A: Well if you already have one hole no. However, if none are predrilled i would definitely dimple both. This also acts as a guide for the drill bit. Set the depth on the drill bit as well, dont need to go too deep.
