Review: Out of the Box it Plays Fine - I bought this as a supplemental player for a second room. It only has one type of RCA connections on the back. No optical or coaxial connections. But I find that it operates perfectly and sounds very good. I have noticed no skipping. When you first turn it on it is a tad bit slow to open the cd drawer. When I say tad bit slow it does not instantly open the drawer but it is fast enough. All the commands respond nicely and when hooked up to a nice audio system it sounds very good. For the reasonable price I believe you are getting a solid basic player. It lacks connection options but if you mostly use standard RCA cables this machine will be just fine for you. One thing that impressed me is the unit is quite heavy for a cd player. It is not flimsy. And it will definitely outperform those cheap portable units out there.

**Q: Stats say 196/24htz is this sacd also?**
A: This unit is an regular CD player.  There are many sites incorrectly rating audio products - 'The Best Reviews Guide' - under the heading ' 10 Best Sacd Players  - April 2019' lists this unit. 
There are hybrid SACD type discs having two music data layers: an regular CD layer and an SACD layer. Hybrid discs WILL play on any Cd player but ONLY the regular data layer - meaning you will NOT benefit from the HD audio layer ( it will NOT play) - therefore you will be wasting your money on an higher priced SACD disc.  IT is unfortunate regular CD players are offered, in some places,  AS IF  they play the SACD layer - hoping you believe you are getting the audiophile experience.

**Q: This looks like a rebranded Onkyo C-7030?**
A: Yes, the Pioneer uses many parts taken from the same bin. Sound United is the parent company of Denon, Polk Audio, Marantz, Definitive technology, HEOS, Classé, Boston Acoustics, Onkyo, Pioneer, and Integra.

**Q: Would i be able  to  hook this directly to an active speaker such as the marshall woburn? or would it still require a reciever?**

I've always been a Pioneer fan. As far as a low cost CD player, this can't be beaten. It is a no frills, single disc player, all I need. Remote works well. Some have asked or made a comment regarding the amount of time the player takes to read a CD and actually start playback. I'd say 5-7 seconds; to me, that's not a problem. Sound quality is excellent. The only con: I wish Pioneer would have continued using the old logo ; )
