The directions were simple. Decided to use a neutral alcohol for 1st step. They aren’t kidding that first run is bitter and very herbal.1st actual batch was a mix of Dominican rum, sweet red wine and honey. Think of the outcome as a jaggermeister like flavor. Would buy again.

Being a fan of Mamajuana I was looking for a good set of chips that I can use to make one at home. I was using the one that I brought myself from Dominican Republic but wanted to start and new bigger bottle. This chips are WAY better than the ones I bought in the touristy place there. The chips are clean (which is rare believe me), more or less uniform and are much easier to deal with and look nice. Just primed them and the flavor is very promising

This bag of Jahil-blend mamajuana herbs will fill your empty 1.75 liter bottle perfectly. Dump some in a large bowl and hand-fill your bottle. It does not take long as the sticks and herbs are relatively large. Throw any tiny grains in your bowl away. Put in your mix of spiced rum, sweet red wine (not a light-colored bubbly red wine) and leave some room for a little honey. Add shakes of cinammon. Shake and let sit two weeks. As the herbs break-in, the second and further batches will taste better than the first which is not all that bad and is very drinkable. I bought 1 bag to start and liked it so much that I bought 2 more for extra empty bottles I had so I will never run out. Excellent product. Update: After a year the mamajuana with Jahil-herbs is still tasting great. Update 2: It is now November 2023, 25% of the herbs have settled and deteriorated in all 3 bottles so I'm buying a 4th Jahil-Blend bag to bring them back to the top. Update 3: My 4th bag arrived today and I was disappointed in the small amount and small size of the star anise herbs compared to the previous bags therefore I'm lowering to 4 stars. I purchased star anise on Amazon to supplement. Very flavorful now.

I was happy with this product. Reminded me of my vacation in the Dominican Republic

Years ago we went on a family trip to the Dominican Republic and my dad fell in love with Mamajuana. I got him this mix for his birthday and he loved it. He made the first batch in cheap rum and dumped it, like your supposed to. Since then he’s been refilling with Bacardi Black, letting it age about a week and drinking it. He’s gone through a lot of batches and says it is still working well (and he only used about half the pouch). It might end up being a yearly gift to him.
