Review: Old school booster pack without safety features can start and power vehicles - No computerized safety features make this the ultimate booster pack. Started a completely flat battery in a car that sat for more than a year Had a vehicle whose lights were left on all night in -10 degree weather. It was a large engine filled with 20W50 oil. So cold outside the car didn’t want to turn over and definitely wasn’t about to start. This booster pack sat connected to the battery for about 15-20 minutes and it started. Incredible! Connected to the main (trunk) battery under the spare tire in a BMW X5 when the alternator failed. Between the inadequate to start+barely sufficient to keep the car running main 12 volt battery plus this JNC Air clipped to the main battery in parallel, we were able to drive the vehicle for more than an hour with zero further issues until we got the vehicle to the shop, avoiding the need for a tow. It was stressful as we watched the dash voltmeter drop (instrument cluster hidden features that can be unlocked), but we made it. At the time, this particular JNC unit was seven years old, definitely not well maintained (there were a couple of years when we didn’t use it and completely forgot to charge it, while it sat on the floor in a basement) yet it always worked flawlessly and exceeded all expectations. Couple months later a similar scenario with a friend’s V8 Lexus LX. Alternator failed, main battery was completed depleted and couldn’t start the vehicle. Clipped the JNC Air to the main battery under the hood, started the car, left the JNC unit in there and jammed it in place by lowering the hood on the JNC unit; drove to the repair shop (only a few miles away this time) without anything more than the coiled air hose becoming kinked from the weight of the hood. We have helped many neighbors and strangers with this jump starter. This has started numerous vehicles without charging for months. It’s simply that good. This unit has saved us an incredible amount of time, made us countless friends, inflated numerous tires, and tested various electronics (using it as a 12 volt power supply). We felt we were pushing our luck with the JNC, being eight years old and quite abused, so we bought a new one of these and passed this to our tow company friend, who, after another two years, continues to use it on his AAA calls. Bonus: Recharges with a standard extension cord (120 VAC outlet). No need to use external transformers or keep track of special chargers. Other considerations worth mentioning: -This is a professional grade unit - it is large and heavy. Not something most will want to drive around with in their trunks at all times. -The air compressor works wonderfully however the attached/supplied hose and chuck aren’t the best. -The replacement certificate requires one to pay to mail the old unit in plus pay a $150 fee and you get a repaired or refurbished unit back. In other words, the certificate is financially pointless. Better to purchase a new replacement unit with all new parts within.
Review: Top dollar but the best value because they work when you need them . Makes life safer . - I own the 660 without the air pump and matched to a viar compressor with direct battery attachment's and this one too . I put one in both cars I drive plus the boat . I have found them to be very dependable and easy to use . It is hard to find these with overcharge protection ( only with 110 not 12 v ) . You can leave this plugged in all the time . I keep them in the car trunks and use the reminder service to tell me when to charge it every 90 days . It takes a long time to bring up to charge but is worth the effort . You can do anything with this but of course you must spend a few bucks . I have a small 300 watt inverter that I can run a little 4 watt Led lamp for a few nights from and a I can use a usb 12v adapter so I can charge my power base , phones and kindle also . Comes in very handy when camping I will actually take a couple of them with me then and whenever I can charge ( driving , or using the generator / 110 if available ) Works great with a 12 volt adapter to inflators for rafts or tubing . I saw a couple of complaints but I have never had a failure yet and one is two years old . Always still useable after 90 days when I top off the charge again . In fact should be something I do soon . This is part of my automotive safety / survival kit . I also have a electric impact and jack . I love this for filling tires it does a great job much better then any pumps but a viar direct to battery . You get what you pay for and each one comes with a coupon for a huge discount on a second battery ..don't misplace or loose it . They suggest you keep the box and store it in there since the cables are always live or hot . I have tried several others and they all failed me within a few years . These have never failed for me or my friends . They will start a few cars in -20 degree weather before needing to be charged overnight or longer . Ps I still like this though they now have some Lithium and Lion battery ones this is a heavy AGM . The price is the same but the lithium and lion starting based deivices are half the size and weight if that . Worth considering for some though this is proven . Remember the 110 volt recharging you do with your extension chord has overcharge protection in the circuit but when you use the 12 volt car charger it does not and that charges fast you must read up on it at the company website or you may damage your charger when using it . I can't wait until these use Lipo batteries and have protection for both charging methods . These are the best jump packs made for the public pure and simple do not be afraid of them but they are not cheap . Both of mine are still working fine and barely need a charge every 90 days if not used . I have forgotten and gone all winter and they still start at least one car . Both of mine are large v-8's .

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does this product perform both functions meaning charging the battery when needed and also as a jump starte**
A: This is a 12V battery about 1/3 the size of most car batteries in an easy-to-carry case. When you first connect it up via the jumper cables, a fair amount of power will be "shared" between batteries (which I think of like having 2 buckets of water where you connect them and the water level balances out depending on how much each had and the sizes). Although that can provide a fair "charge" pretty fast (which may be enough to get a car started), it is very limited and will never "recharge" the other battery 100%. If you have this connected to another battery and plug in its AC charger, power will go to both batteries, but the chargers in these only put out 0.5 amps where it can take 24 hours just to charge itself if heavily drained so it can take several days to charge itself and a drained car battery connected up together. So that's probably why most manuals say "disconnect everything while charging" discouraging doing that, but it can work (if you don't mind the time it takes). Otherwise if you want to be able to charge a car battery in less than a day, you'll want a 5-10 amp car charger.

**Q: Is the internal battery replaceable?**
A: Yes. The replacement JNC105 battery capacity is listed as 18 Ah (Ampere-hours). Doesn't sound like much compared to a car battery, but I talked to a AAA guy who said he starts cars all week and only recharges on the weekend. Based on my experience with two of the JNCAIRs, I believe him.

**Q: Has anyone tried to charge this by leaving the AC cord plugged into a 400 Watt power inverter in your car?**
A: I don't own the JNC Air unit yet, but I plan to purchase it. I believe that the following should work:The Cobra CPI 480 inverter (which I do own) can be plugged into a car cigarette lighter plug (or this unit's 12V socket) for loads up to 150 watts or it can be connected directly to a car battery with alligator clips for loads up to 400 watts (for 60 minutes at a time followed by a 15 minute cool down). Alternately, I assume that the Cobra alligator clips could be connected to the hot alligator clips on this unit for loads somewhere between 150 and 400 watts (as if it were a car battery). The Cobra (and most other small inverters) uses a modified sine wave and warns that it may damage sensitive electronic equipment. From the Cobra manual: "If the label on the AC adaptor or charger states that it produces a low voltage AC or DC output (less than 30 volts), the inverter will have no problem powering the adapter safely."I believe that the JNC Air and Cobra CPI 480 make a good pair for camping. You can connect the Cobra to the JNC Air 12V socket or connect to the alligator clips to power 120V items from the JNC Air battery, and when the JNC Air battery runs down, you can plug the Cobra into the 12V socket of your car and use it to recharge the JNC Air via its 120V input, thus taking advantage of the JNC Air's float charger and not risking an overcharge. The only problem I see with this strategy is that I don't know whether or not the JNC Air has a deep cycle battery. If it doesn't, then wearing it down like this might hurt the battery. At least the battery can be easily replaced if it does fail.

**Q: Mine came with a broken gauge. Anyone know of an inflator + gauge that will work with it?**
A: No, sorry; however, if it came with a broken gauge I'm sure you can contact amazon and you can return it for a different one.
