The bristles are firm but flexible. I will also be using the brush to scrub the greenish scum that forms on the deck in our damp climate. Unfortunately, the brush is small. It took a while to scrub the whole deck. I bought another one so next time, I’ll have someone to help scrub while I do **Q: How long are the bristles?** A: Without going to actually MEASURE them, I'd say approximately 4 inches. (Bristles are course for scrubbing; not soft like a broom). I used it to scrub my deck before sealing it. It worked great! No need to get on my hands & knees.
