For my purposes on this particular drive the security software is a tiresome inconvenience - the media is stuff which would raise no concerns if seen by anyone else. Deleting the security .exe file on this stick was easy enough. As with some other USBs, it's OK to remove it directly from the system as long as no files on it are open and no data is in the process of being transferred. Clicking on the "safe to remove" icon does initially produce the message that a program is still accessing it. This is because Windows wrongly decides it's still in use. If you're still uneasy about pulling it, running something like CCleaner to delete temporary files on your computer will produce the "safe to remove" message at the next attempt. All in all, quite happy with this. I've pinpointed this now to the feature, that this device needs an USB port with electricity feed, unlike most similar devices. Many computers and USB hubs lack this kind of ports, or it is not available on all USB ports. Well, even more space would be needed to replace the external hard drive with this...
