Percale stands for the weaving process in which the fabric is woven by. In percale the yarns are woven in one over one, unlike Sateen where it's four over one. The one over one (percale) weave create a much even, stronger, denser & softer fabric, which can stand the test of time and gets better and better feel the more you wash it. It's just like your favorite old shirt, the more it's laundered the softer and durable it gets. Percale or Percalcos is a closely woven plain-weave fabric often used for bed covers. The term describes the weave of the fabric, not its content, so percale could be a blend of 50% cotton and 50% polyester, 100% cotton, or a blend of other fabrics in any ratio. A percale weave has a thread count of about 200 or higher, and is noticeably tighter than the standard type of weave used for bed-sheets. It has medium weight, is firm and smooth with no gloss, and warps and washes very well. It is made from both carded and combed yarns. Percale fabrics are made in both solid colors and printed patterns. The finish of the fabric is independent of its weave, so it can be either printed or unprinted. Definition Percale sheets are a type of high quality bed linen in which the threads are woven in a very tight pattern. They usually consist of two hundred or more threads per square inch. Content Percale describes the woven quality of the sheets rather than the content. So percale sheets might be one hundred percent cotton, a blend of cotton and polyester, cotton and linen, or any other type of thread. Percale is simply a word that describes a way that fabric is woven together. How is it woven? Percale sheets are woven where each yarn or thread crosses over another yarn or thread. This is different from other fabrics, such as sateen, where each thread crosses over 4 others. The percale method of weaving will produce a fabric that is tighter, stronger and lasts much longer than other types of fabric.
