I was surprised that the kettle's appearance was actually much nicer in person compared to the product photos. Design is sleek and modern. The overall build quality appears to be solid. The flip-up switch has a built-in light to indicate when the unit is powered on (this was not shown in the photos).The interior steel vessel is a singular piece (like a thermos) and has no seals that might potentially leak (the corners have a small radius - no weld points). There are no plastic parts that come into contact with the water. Even the underside of the lid is one solid piece of metal. NOTE: my unit had a plastic and metal mesh strainer attached on the inside, which was easily removed via the plastic notches.The exterior is a nicely finished, glossy plastic with a solid handle.
