bought for my log burner
I bought this for my log burner to make sure it burned effectively and there is a magnet on the back so it can sticks nicely on my flue so I can read the temperature from the couch. It has a handy scale that indicates the range you should aim for when burning, so you can better determine how to control your burner. If you are a new log burner user, this will be a great help for you.Highly recommended

Does not display accurate temperature / you can rotate it very easily!
Perhaps my unit is defective, but if you spin the thermometer while the magnet is attached to your wood stove, the temperature spins with it!!So, the thermometer can read 500F, and if I spin it clockwise, I can make it read 300F.There's no way for me to truly re-calibrate unless I buy another thermometer. USELESS!

Low cost way to check temperature
I found that the pointer was not very accurate if the gauge was twisted while attached to the stove. In other words the movement wasn't anchored to the frame. So if you used the attached handle it would spin the movement. I used a infared thermometer and got a decent reading then spun this gauge to match that. I will anchor the movement then. Not a big deal but I spent 30 years as a technician making sure things were reading accurately so maybe I am a little OCD

Does not work
I have 2 wood stoves and purchased this thermometer but it never seems to move or reads very low. I have placed it side by side with my existing thermometer I have owned ever 15 years and the coil on the back of this one is about 1/4”. Way smaller then my old one.I have already purchased a new one and the back coil of my new one is as big as my old original one.I do not know if the back Coil size matters but since my 2nd new one works I am returning this one.

Too small, too hard to read.
While it does seem to be fairly accurate, it is just too small to easily read. The size of it is somewhat of a joke (2.5 inches) and the colors don't help in the readability department. My suggestion is to find something that is a) larger and b) has better color combinations. For example, optimal performance should be green, overheat red, etc. Not just orange and black. Two stars for this product. If it's not easy to read, it is not easy to use. I'm just not impressed with this purchase and not worth returning. Buy larger.

Great Little Stove-Top Thermometer!
I've had one of these for years so I decided to purchase another two for my stove top and a friend's stove top. They are very easy to read and seem to read consistently, although I haven't verified that they are perfectly accurate.Small footprint but perfectly functional. A great investment for ensuring you are keeping your wood stove at a consistent temperature and not over/underburning. Great product and highly recommended!

It’s the only way you can actually know how hot your stove is.
This thermometer has a strong magnet and is attached to the side of my small iron wood stove. I’m in a 30’ RV Trailer so I need to keep an eye on how hot my stove gets. It tells me when to thro an extra piece of wood in the fire by looking at the ‘needle’.When it’s straight up, it’s very warm in here, no wood needed. It’s very good

Useless
Purchased based off of mostly good reviews. Have placed this thing on both the single walled stove pipe and the side of the stove.....temperature will not go above 100deg. I’ve had both small fires and roaring fires....it goes to 100deg and stops. It’s useless.
