Moonraker MRW-100 Supergainer Handheld Antenna, Black

Purchased to replace the standard rubber duck antenna supplied with the scanner. This Moonraker antenna works a treat with the 125XLT. I did wonder whether I should have got an antenna specifically tuned for airband as that is all I’m really interested in but the MRW-100 gives a marked improvement in airband reception. I live about 4 miles from Biggin Hill and I could originally pick up aircraft in flight but none of the ground transmissions or ATIS. Now I can hear ground based transmissions too plus a number of other stations such as Thames Radar, Farnborough LARS and both Gatwick and Heathrow Approach. The antenna fits securely and appears to be of good quality construction. It suits my needs for a mobile scanner perfectly, I’ve not tried it for other frequency ranges but it certainly works fine on airband.

This aerial is recommended as a more effective substitute for the rubber duck supplied with some handheld scanners. It certainly improves reception without compromising portability. Well built and easily fitted and detached, it's a sensible investment.

I'm not impressed with this at all. I live fairly close to an airport and although I have no tools to test signals, it can barely get the ATIS. The rubber duck has no problems picking up the ATIS.I'm by no means an expert but just realise this antenna may not be built specifically for air band radio.

Product is much better on my Uniden UBC125 XLT scanner than the previous aerial (Watson 889). It produces much clearer comms from a wider range. On the old aerial I'd wait for ages to get any transmissions, they now happen frequently and much more clearly. I don't have to be as close and even pick up aircraft over 50 miles away. Much better.

This arrived with a kink in the middle, but I was able to straighten it to some degree after a bit of manipulation. However, it was worse than the antenna that came with my scanner, in fact it would not pick up anything on the air band. Now whether this is because the antenna was damaged (though it is meant to be flexible) or whether this just isn't meant for ATC receiving I am not sure. Either way I returned it 'not fit for purpose'.

I bought this for my nephew, who said it's far better than the rubber duck that originally came with his scanner. The local ATC is much clearer, which means he doesn't have to be driven to the airport to hear whats going on. I personally don't use it so I'm only going on what my nephew tells me.

This antenna has brought my Uniden UBC125XLT to life! I live in a marginal area for aerodrome comms and this has definitely improved my reception across all airband aircraft frequencies. Thank You Moonraker!

Got this for my ubc125xlt scanner to replace the stock rubber antenna and it gave a significant improvement in reception. I have reasonable line of sight to my local airport but the stock antenna was pretty bad at picking up strong signal.Great buy at a very reasonable price.
