Review: My son’s favorite book - This is my 10 year old son’s favorite book. The book is told from multiple character’s perspectives, including the cat. There is a mystery to the story without it being an edge of your seat mystery. The book moved along well. I know others say it is slow and dry, but I guess it depends on what you enjoy reading. My son has read it 4 times in 6 months and still wants to read it again. I’ve only read through it once, but found the young boy to be an interesting character and fun to read from his perspective. While I didn’t love the fact of there being ghosts in the book, they weren’t done as scary or creepy additions, so I was more okay with it. They were there to support Al, and left when she was finally ready. It was a somewhat odd storyline from that perspective. Why would someone let anyone live in an old historical house used as a museum for tours? Why would some sort of authority not make her leave? Why did Evan’s dad keep the library fire a secret for so long? Overall, it can be worth the read, but not my favorite book. Review: Heart warming! - I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this book! This book was written so beautifully, so much detail and depth! I would totally recommend this books for kids and teens! It has a lot of grace, and I love all the characters! {!SPOILER ALERT!} I still don't understand/know if the wife of Evan's dad (the mouse guy) knows that he's H.G. Higgins. I mean, if the teacher knows that he's H.G. Higgins, then surely his wife knows.... wait, I think she does know! But a lot of plot twists! I wish that the head librarian (who would always say that Al had to find her place) and Mr. Brock would have seen the cats together when they were watching the movie, and for Evan's dad to see the Librarian and Mr. Brock again. And I'm not sure if it's just me who didn't understand this, but did the orange cat Mortimer ever meet the other cat who had a 'scarry' name? I know he met Petunia, but what about the other cat? The chapters are laid out differently, each starting with who this part of the story is about. The characters are delightful and easy to see. Things and events are not always what they appear to be. Absolutely worth the read.
