The cable from my monitor has 3 wires.** A: Your Monitor is most likely the Cinema Display rather than the Thunderbolt Display. This cable is for Thunderbolt Display only and has MagSafe (power) and Thunderbolt (video+data) cable. The Cinema Display has MagSafe (power), USB (data), and Mini DisplayPort (video). **Q: Will this cable work on a 24 inch Apple Cinema Display?** A: It is for 27" Thunderbolt Display only it seems, primarily due to the Thunderbolt cable. You'd need one that has simply a mini-displayport cable. **Q: Does anyone make a replacement cable set that is Thunderbolt 3 (for use with newer macbook pros)?** A: Not that I'm aware of. The internal part of the cable plugs in to a standard Thunderbolt 1 port inside the display unit. As far as I know, you'll have to purchase a Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt 3 adapter from Apple to connect outside of the display. **Q: This cites "mid 2011", how do I determine if my monitor meets that criteria?** A: You will need to know your device serial number to ensure compatibility ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great instructions on iFixit *by H***S on May 25, 2020* My old cable had cracked at the point where the mag safe and thunderbolt cables separated. I had noted an intermittently pixelated screen, then the Apply 27” Thunderbolt Display went black a few months later. That’s when I found the problem with the cable. Instruction on iFixit.com made it possible, as there are many steps to getting this replacement done. The display once again works perfectly. You need the suction cups to start the replacement process and the foam support blocks were a big help. DO pay attention to the comments, as they solved two puzzles for me during the process. I used an ice cube tray to hold all the screws and bits as I dismantled the display. That helped a lot on reassembly. This was the most complex computer repair I have ever done, but it wasn’t that bad with those great instructions. Anyone with patience and a reasonably steady hand can do it. I also used my camping headlamp to really brighten my field of View. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Better quality than expected; works perfectly! *by L***R on August 6, 2020* Got a great deal on a thunderbolt display, turns out the cable was only working intermittently (display usually worked fine but no sound or webcam)... This cable plus some ifixit tools I already had, a beer and an hour on a weeknight and bam, perfectly working thunderbolt display! Not sure if these are used cables pulled off dead monitors or snuck out the backdoor of some factory but they seem very close in quality to the original Apple cable which is super cool for sub-$20.
