## Description

Keep interior wood projects looking beautiful with Minwax Polyurethane Wood Finish Aerosol Spray. This oil-based clear sealer protective coating protects and adds long-lasting beauty to woodwork, furniture, doors, cabinets and floors. The clear top coat is one of the most durable coatings for wood protection against scratches, spills and more. It can be used on both finished and unfinished wood projects, and is available in a variety of sheens. The fast-drying formula allows for quick recoats in 4-6 hours. Application Directions: 1. Surface must be dry and free of old finishes in poor condition, paint, wax, grease, polish, dirt or other foreign matter.2. Sand to obtain a smooth uniform surface. Remove all dust.3. If desired, apply Minwax stain to unfinished wood surfaces. Follow directions for application and dry times.4. Shake Minwax Fast-Drying Polyurethane vigorously for two minutes. Shake for 10 seconds occasionally during use. 5. Protect adjacent areas from overspray. Wet overspray can be removed with mineral spirits.6. Hold can vertically 12 inches from surface. Depress button fully and spray using an even, sweeping motion with slightly overlapping strokes. On unfinished wood, apply sufficient material to seal open joints, edges and end-grain.7. Apply a THIN coat to avoid runs and sags. Recoat within 2 hours. If unable to do so, wait a minimum of 72 hours, then lightly sand and recoat.8. Apply at least three coats on unfinished wood and two coats on surfaces already finished.9. After final coat, allow 24 hours before normal use.

Review: horrible - didn't like it waste money
Review: Nice nozzle - I really appreciate the nozzle on these. It's really easy to press, easy on the fingers, and the 45 degree angle makes spraying onto a flat level surface really nice. Plus it produces a great mist distribution. No notes. Anyway, I the quality of the spray seems good as well. Just not sure it's really what I need for my case of coating covers for book binding. I think it dries a bit slow and has more of a smell. I'll still get use out of it but probably wont re-up on it for this use case. Which is a shame because it has the nicest nozzle of any spray can I've ever used...

## Questions & Answers

**Q: what the difference between this and the polycrylic??**
A: I use both for different reasons. This oil base is more durable against wear and water rings than polycrylic for things like table tops and countertops. It is easier to get a smooth finish when brushing because it dries slower and flows out flatter. It WILL impart a warm, yellowish finish that is visible on lighter woods, and it will create a darker patina with age. It gives a warm, amber glow to medium or dark wood finishes. This quality may or may not be desirable. It usually only requires two coats. Use it for durability, a warm, aged patina, and ease of application towards a smooth finish.

Polycrylic is not as durable and can show "elbow wear" on table tops after a few year. It will stay crystal clear on white woods, but can impart a milky sheen on darker woods. It dries fast, so you can sand between coats much quicker than oil. However, that can make it tricky to brush it on and get a smooth finish, especially if you brush back over it when it gets tacky. It requires minimum of 3 coats, 4 for long durability. on wearable surfaces Use it when you need a crystal clear finish on light colored woods, and fast drying between coats is desired.

**Q: Will it be very shine and smooth for the surface after I use? thanks**
A: Yes. I recommend first using a 600 grit sandpaper to lightly remove old finish. Remove all dust with a damp cloth, and then lightly spray on first coat (Thin coat best).

Wait 24 hours to dry. Next lightly sand using a 1500 grit sandpaper, remove all dust with a damp cloth, and then lightly spray on first coat (Thin coat best). Repeat this step two more times. Glass feel may require additional applications. Remember thin coats.

PS: If you choose the brush method, do not use sponge brushes since it is more likely to leave bubbles, use a good quality sable hair brush. I did a bar top decades ago applying clear polyurethane with about 20 thin coats in the first year about once every other week and I left a penny at the end of the top and coated over it until it disappeared ant the bar top was so smooth. The top was red mahogany that is probably still a luster for the new owner. I could slide a bear from one end to the other end.

**Q: Can this be used on floors?**
A: Yes, this oil based polyurethane fast drying is absolutely engineered for hardwood floor and definitely in high traffic areas. I used the water based polyurethane in the dining room and this is the hallways, this looks so good and is holding up better than expected.

**Q: what is the best way to apply this**
A: Use a bristled brush. Those sponge brushes leave bubbles in it.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Does the job well
*by F***E on 15 April 2026*

Dried smooth and clear on a sanded surface. Used three or four coats. The application was noticeable as the original coating ( only removed from a small area ) has a slight honey color. As this was done on a working tool, durability and feel were more important than appearance. No additional sanding was needed after drying.
