## Description

Product Description Enjoy delicious, homemade sugar cones or waffle bowls in just seconds (and delight in the fresh baked aroma). Nothing beats the caramel aroma and fresh flavor of home-baked waffle cones, and this appliance makes one in about two minutes. And, because it has instant temperature recovery, it makes cone after cone without delay. The baking process itself averages about 90 seconds, depending on the degree of browning required. A color-control dial makes that personal-taste choice easy to select. Accompanying the waffle-cone maker is a plastic cone-rolling form. Illustrated instructions show how easily it's done, and recipes provide the remaining information needed to become a master cone maker. The nonstick waffle plates measure 7 inches in diameter and clean with the swipe of a cloth. Overall, the 1,000-watt appliance measures 8-3/4 inches wide, 3-1/4 inches high, and 10 inches deep. It carries a one-year warranty against defects. -Fred Brack desertcart.com Nothing beats the caramel aroma and fresh flavor of home-baked waffle cones, and this appliance makes one in about two minutes. Review: Grind your mistake cones into crumbs for pie crusts! - This is a really simple waffle iron, so not much to it: it works very well for its intended purpose. I wish the plates were removable for cleaning, but can't have everything. I received it yesterday, so no long-term use data; if it breaks, I'll post an update. The cone maker heats up evenly, and the waffles come out perfect once you find a good recipe. I tried all three recipes that come with the iron, and in my hands, the chocolate cone worked the best. The first recipe makes waffles that are a bit too thick and heavy to my taste. I would not recommend to use all-purpose flour, and instead use cake flour for all recipes. Since I didn't have cake flour on hand, I mixed 1/3 corn starch with 2/3 AP flour and it worked much better than 100% AP flour. I used the corn starch/AP flour mixture for the second recipe plus an additional tbsp of oil, and the waffles came out very light, thin, and crunchy. Ditto the chocolate recipe, and it was the best: not as thin and lacy as the second recipe, but thinner and more pliable than the first recipe. I am not a big fan of chocolate, so no chocolate bias here. It seems the key is not to overmix the batter and get the correct consistency. My batter was a consistency of sour cream, it was not running from the spoon, I had to drop it with the help of another spoon and press it with the lid. Once the steam stops coming out, the waffle is pretty much done and ready to be rolled. My next projects will be unsweetened waffles, chocolate tacos, cannoli, and a mille feuille (Napoleon) cake.
Review: SIMPLY FANTASTIC!! - I recently bought a really great ice cream machine and I happened to be browsing the internet and I saw this waffle cone maker. At first, I thought, "O.K., not another gadget!" but after reading several descriptions of the machine I decided to buy it. Thank God for going with my first mind!! This machine is incredible. After reading the brief instructions, I mixed up my batch of waffle cone mix (Chef's Choice) and set out on my adventure. Spraying a small amount of olive oil onto the heating pads (I always spray oil for the first time of each use) I poured my first coaster-sized amount of mix onto the machine; closed the lid and waited for the appropriate time to elapse. After opening the lid, out came this good smelling circular cone. Immediately, I lifted the cone using a rubber spatula; used the cone roller as indicated and Viola!! A great cone!! Not to mention the wonderful smell permeating my house!! It took me two tries to get the right amount of mix to make the perfect cone. I had some of the mix slide out the sides of the machine...no problem, just wipe it off. When making your cone fold a small amount at the bottom before you begin rolling the cone; or pinch the bottom of the cone when rolling so that your ice cream will not come out at the end; or put some melted chocolate, butterscotch or caramel at the bottom and let it get hard...a tasty plug!! The only thing I can think of that would make this one package complete is if the company would supply a rubber spatula, the towel (they mention using) or perhaps a pair of cotton gloves to help roll the cone...it is hot!! However, I really use just my hands. I get a better feel of the roller this way. And, please do not let these couple of items dissuade you from purchasing this machine. That would be terrible. We should all, hopefully, have a rubber spatula and towels!! Cleaning the machine is a breeze. The non-stick heating pads are greatly appreciated. I highly recommend this machine. What a great addition to any household that loves ice cream!! Be Blessed!!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: can this make stroopwafel ?**
A: I would imagine you could. Just make a caramel sauce and layer between two waffles. :-)

**Q: What is the difference between models 838 and 838-SE ?**
A: About $15. Whatever the difference is it is not worth the additional cost. Buy the 838. It works as advertised.

**Q: can you make waffle ice cream tacos**
A: Certainly! I've even made rolled cookies with it. Until it cools and hardens, the waffle can be shaped all sorts of ways. Experiment with the batter recipes--some are thicker than others and will make a stronger taco.

**Q: Is this unit rated NSF or ETL for commercial use?**
A: I found this information on line so this is not my own saying but it's what I could find on this waffle maker. Results 1 - 40 of 1500 - Chef's Choice 838 Waffle Cone Express Ice Cream ..... Designed for regular commercial use, it's both NSF ... cETLus, ETL, NSF, ANSI 4 ( Eurodib - WECCHBAT ) ...

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good cone maker and heats evenly, but...
*by A***D on October 24, 2012*

I have used the Waffle Cone maker several times now and really like it. I've tried the recipes in the book and also made gluten free cones with great success. The waffle cone maker browns evenly and is easy to keep clean. The nonstick surface works perfectly. The instructions also include recipes you can try. We tried them and also a few premade mixes. All of the recipes worked well in the waffle cone maker. The latch on the front is a bit hard to latch and I worry about it breaking, but so far it has held up nicely and it latches very solid. My other issue with it being hard to latch is that my wife has a medical problem with her hands, so people with arthritis may want to check the use of this latch before using the cone maker to ensure it will be OK to use or if it will need to be returned. This latch is used to keep the lid down and spread out the batter across the heating surface, therefore it must be used or the cone thickness will not turn out properly. The plastic cone form works well and is sturdy, but it does take a bit of practice to get used to it. This is not a manufacturing problem, but rather just a personal technique skill to learn. The first time I tried to roll the cones, the waffle would just slide around on the cone form and would then crack. I tried using a prepackaged mix Chef's Choice Gourmet Waffle Cone Mix and the cones were a lot easier to roll and came out very nice. The casing of the waffle cone maker is built solidly. For this price range, I am impressed with the quality build. I cannot speak for the durability of the inside components, but I will update this review when I have used it for a long enough time to give a proper review of its life span. This has an adjustable "color" dial. This allows you to adjust how brown the cone will be. It is basically a timer adjustment for how long it wil wiat before telling you to remove the cones. This is a nice option to have and is similar to a how a toaster works. There are two lights on the unit to tell you when it is heated enough to add batter and when to remove the cooked cone. It only takes about two minutes to cook a cone. This cone maker is very easy to use and I would trust my grandchildren to use it on their own. So far I am very happy with it and I recommend it.
