An overclocker's dream
I was aware of the hype and negative press around the AMD Bulldozer cpus but I thought I would give them a go, and I have to say I'm pleased I did, as the FX 6100 is just terrific value for money, as for about £110 you are getting a 6 core processor, which you can overclock to the hilt. I am new to overclocking myself, but even I managed to test it out, as I overclocked it up to 4GHz, using an Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 fan, and the 6100 was still only showing temperatures around 33C degrees!! I've currently clocked it to 3.8 GHz for now. This is also really impressive because gaming wise, games also run very smoothly on it too, when overclocked, and I tried the 3DMark Vantage test, as at stock speed it initially run up 12700 marks in the cpu test, but overclocked up to 4GHz, it scored nearly 15000 marks!! Which means with that bit more overclocking you can get this cpu to run at the stock speed of a Phenom II X6 1090T, which is incredible! So for me the AMD Bulldozer FX-6100 is an incredible processor in itself especially when it comes to overclocking, its a real beast, and well worth it!

Excellent bang per buck for photo and video work
There have been some very mixed professional reviews of the AMD FX processors, and I would agree at the initial release price FX was not as appealing as it might be. However the price has fallen quite a bit since lauch, mix in quite a good AMD cashback offer and you are asking yourself one simple question. I'm looking for a CPU that has a good performance and is well priced. Welcome to the FX6100 from AMD ;-) You could of course buy an Intel i-3 CPU, but you want something that won't "run and hide" when things get a bit more demanding. I upgraded from an AMD quad core Phenom II 840 CPU and it's been well worthwhile a very easy update for 2/3/4 core AMD users except owners of the x6 Phenom II where the performance is similar to the lower x6 processors. But you now pay a lot less for the CPU so it evens things out. With video work there is a very strong performance really outstanding and a notable step up from the x4 processor. Photo/Video work this is a super choice for good performance, also speedy for software such as Winrar, 7zip It might not have been a super appealing £150 CPU, but at it's current price it's an outstanding bargain. May not score great on Itunes and some other benchmarks, but then with 6 cores/threads some of the review software simply won't run that well for this CPU. But I bet if I-tunes ran on more than a few threads this would score superbly. Let's put the blame on the software makers who should ensure they cater for multi threading properly. My own tests showed it scored 5800 odd on passmark (going well above 6000 with a small bump to 3.5GHz) v 4000 from the old 840 CPU, and it shaved a good 6 minutes off of a video conversion (27mins v just over 20mins with the 6100) I even managed to undervolt it and overclock it! (hint a good choice for quiet pc enthusiasts too) Runs even cooler than the 840 and is unquestionably quicker. Pros: Runs very cool Super bang per buck Very good performance for multi threaded applications Unlocked Cons: Performance mixed in low threaded applications, but still decent (ie it's in the heavy thread ones where you need the performance most) Easy 5 star for this simply cannot find fault at this price. A much better choice for heavy lifting v an i-3 processor (and cheaper too!)

AMD: BUDGET PC BUILDER'S BEST PAL
Great CPU at 3.3ghz and auto Overclockable on my asus mob to 3.9ghz! faster boot time compared to my amd phenom iix 4 975 which was overload for 95 watt mobo (when i bought my mobo i looked at wrong board on asus website - it was the plus version lol 125 watt tdp lol) with 8gb basic kingston ram and asus eah hd radeon 6670 card also from amazon i am happy with what i have. can watch HD and blu-ray on full spec with the card. it's fast but records 7.3 on windows index. amd phenom iix4 975 recorded 7.5. so i will check again when i set it at turbo boost and see what i get but that is just shortening the cpu life for vanity sake. i say buy it or get yourself a phenom iix 6 or the 8 core while prices are cheap!!!!. i have to have the pleasure of those guys and may not need to because i do my high end gaming on xbox.

Decent CPU
I ordered this AMD 6 core CPU as it was at an exceptionally special offer low price. AMD also had a £15 cash back which was credited directly into my bank account, so I got an unbelievably great deal. The CPU arrived on time, well packed, including a decent heatsink and fan with Thermal Paste already applied to the heatsink. So take care when you are fitting the heatsink on to the CPU. The heatsink fan is so easy to clip onto the CPU with a lever compared to the previous AMD CPU fans where I have had to use a screw driver to press the clip into place on the motherboard. I also bought from Amazon, the Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 Motherboard (Socket AM3+, Up to 16GB DDR3, USB 3.0, uATX). The system I built is running Windows 2008 R2, 16GB RAM, on the ASUS board, AMD 6 core CPU, everything is running very smoothly. Right now I'm preparing the system with W2008 R2 HyperV and put as many virtual machines as I can on it including the new Windows 2012 Server, Windows 8 along with the now "ancient" W2003, Windows 7 and setup a virtual Active Directory Forest and Exchange 2010 - 2007 - 2003 Organization. So far so good, keeping my fingers crossed !!

Well off the pace
I have been investigating upgrading my AM3+ motherboard and AMD Athlon II x3 425 Processor. I saw the FX-6100 with 6 cores at 3.3 GHz and thought this must be an improvement. Yes, it is better (faster and more efficient) than the 2 year old Athlon II 425 (at 2.7 GHz speed) I had, but it's really quite bad compared to Intel's current i3 processors for a similar price. Sadly, Intel's processors are much faster in general applications, like web browsing, and itunes and much more efficient. AMD is far behind the technology curve. To make things worse and somewhat perversely, the FX processors clock for clock and £ for £ are actually slower than the previous Phenom processors. Doesn't make much sense really. In terms of running costs, these FX processors use about 60% more power than an equally performing i3 Intel processor for the same task. This might not seem like an issue to most people, but if say for example you were using you PC 24/7 for one year, then you could easily spend an extra £70 on your electricity bill. Over a couple of years you may be better off with Intel. I'm not an Intel fan and I do think Intel processors are still initially expensive, but objectively the FX-6100 from AMD is really disappointing. I'm somewhat frustrated that AMD have not been able to produce a better upgrade solution for me.

Gran procesador a precio contenido

Auch was übertakten angeht.
