The Lone Wolf is the nickname of the fictional character Michael Lanyard, a jewel thief turned private detective in a series of novels written by Louis Joseph Vance (1879–1933). A large number of movies based on and inspired by the books have been made. The character also appeared briefly on radio and television. His first appearance in film was in 1917, only three years after the first novel appeared. He remained a criminal right into the talkies, but by 1939's The Lone Wolf Spy Hunt, he was a reformed gentleman thief and amateur sleuth on the side of the good guys.****These films were originally produced long before the advent of High Definition TV, therefore they are best viewed on a small screen. HD TVs tend to stretch and skew the picture. Set your HD TV on 4:3 aspect ratio. (That was the old TV format). Please do not expect DVD or Commercial level DVDs from these films. These movies are very rare, and hard to find. Movies List: PLEASE BE AWARE: This collection includes 15 movies. The titles are in good picture quality. The titles with two ** are just acceptable, but good enough to be enjoyed. **The Lone Wolf Returns (1935, Melvyn Douglas), **The Lone Wolf in Paris (1938, Francis Lederer), The Lone Wolf Spy Hunt (1939, Warren William), The Lone Wolf Strikes (1940, Warren William), The Lone Wolf Meets a Lady (1940, Warren William), The Lone Wolf Keeps a Date (1941, Warren William), The Lone Wolf Takes a Chance (1941, Warren William), **Secrets of the Lone Wolf (1941, Warren William), Counter-Espionage (1942, Warren William), **One Dangerous Night (1943, Warren William), Passport to Suez (1943, Warren William), The Notorious Lone Wolf (1946, Gerald Mohr), **The Lone Wolf in Mexico (1947, Gerald Mohr), The Lone Wolf in London (1947, Gerald Mohr), The Lone Wolf and His Lady (1949, Ron Randell), The Lone Wolf in Paris (Spanish Subtitles) 1938.

The Quality of the Product AND the Seller
These early movies are a joy to watch, no matter who your favorite Lone Wolf is (mine is Melvyn Douglas, btw). The best character through, though, is Eric Blore. It doesn't matter who the Lone Wolf is played by, Eric steals the show - he's worth having the entire set. Considering the age and film quality of the movies, Onesmedia has done a great job transferring them to DVD, with the caveat that sometimes the pictures are a bit grainy and the sound a bit wonky but, hey - that's also what makes them fun. Also, I got a kick out of the gift DVD containing two Michael Shayne films starring Lloyd Nolan - thank you! If you like early Hollywood glamour with a bit of corny mystery, buy this set - it's a treasure!

Quality is great!
I was a little concerned about how the quality would be but it is EXCELLENT...and I have a 42" tv. The movies are as great as ever and so happy with this purchase. Also how nice to a get bonus DVD of more movies.

So so transfers
Only two of these Lone Wolf movies are good transfers - by which I mean fairly crisp and eminently watchable. Both are Warren William outings - Counterespionage and Passport to Suez. All the others suffer from soft pictures, fuzziness, scratches and/or artifacts. Everything is more or less watchable but videophiles may be upset. One of the bigger problems is that some of the movies will play on one player but not on another. My Samsung player won't play at least 4 of the movies but my Sony will play them. The menu system is very rudimentary and cumbersomely slow and playback will not resume where you left off. Still, if you want the Lone Wolf, this is about the best you'll be able to do.

Great job OnesMedia! Thanks bunches!
I am very pleased. I watched all 16 in about 3 days. All come in great, except 3. Those are a bit blurry, but not bad. Those 3 are still acceptable, considering that they were filmed around the time my mother was born....which was ions ago. No problems with sound but I did need to raise volume of the movies. I played these on a blu ray disc player. A free movie was included...thanks! Loved that one too. It had some of my favorite old time actors in it. A very young Lucille Ball. Onesmedia does a great job and they can be trusted to give the best quality available on these old films.

Excellent seller, great product
Onesmedia has done a great job with these. They clearly advise (warn?) that the actual quality of the movies is not what you get with current releases. Even when these movies were new they did not have that level of picture quality or sound. That said, Onesmedia (no personal interest in them!) has put them in good quality DVDs with good quality packaging, and their response time for shipping was amazing, ordered on Sunday and it shipped the same day!As for the movies, what's to say, they were made in the days when it was all about pure entertainment, no messaging, no lectures! That alone makes them a pleasure to watch.

While not of the caliber of, say
The Falcon or The Saint series of movies from the same time period, this is still a lot of fun! Just takes a little getting used to switching up the main actor, with five different ones playing the main character of The Lone Wolf/Michael Lanyard(Melvin Douglas, Francis Lederer, Warren William[the best!], Gerald Mohr & Ron Randall)! With Eric Blore in most of these for fun, that's exactly what he gives these films he's in! Very entertaining set! RP

Poor Quality!
Much like the Crime Doctor Collection the quality of these movies is very poor. It looks like the source came from VHS tapes burned unto a 'home-made' Blu-ray Disc. These movies have been shown on TCM and their quality is way better than these. I would not recommend these to anyone who appreciates good quality. It's my opinion that the prior 'glorious' reviews which people have left are either 'distributor-hype' or individuals who don't know the difference between good and poor quality. Again, this production is a 'home-made' Blu-ray Disc. This is not a commercially produced Blu-ray Disc.

Great DVD!
I couldn’t be more happier with this dvd! Great to watch, I got this because I’m a huge fan of Warren William but the other actors who play The Lone Wolf are so good to watch I’ve got a few other great names to look out for in future old black and white films! Quality of the picture and sound are amazing too and I couldn’t have asked for a quicker delivery! Thank you! And thank you for the free discs too, another with Warren William and a surprise bonus! Will definitely buy from you again!

Lone wolf
The majority of the films are not very good. The writing and acting is terrible. The main character has many actor changes. Late in the series gerald mohr stars In 3 movies. These are very enjoyable and I think they are the best of the series.
