McCall's Patterns Victorian Dress Costume Sewing Pattern for Women by Angela Clayton, Sizes 12-20

Used this pattern to make a theater costume for an actor. The instructions were clear and easy to follow and it came together beautifully! It floats style-wise between a late 1800s and early 1900s walking suit and can be easily modified/embellished to fit the time period better. (As a note, I made several modifications to the pattern to fit my project timeline and actor’s needs, i.e. skipped the soutache and altered the contrast, snaps and zipper instead of hook and eyes, gathering instead of pleating, adding a small train to the skirt, etc.) Very pleased with this pattern!

This is a very intricate pattern that involves a lot of hand sewing. Even so, the instructions were clear and it resulted in the most amazing costume I've ever made. Since I made this, I feel like I am capable of anything! Anyone who attempts this pattern will benefit greatly from Angela Clayton's blog outlining the steps.My notes:1. I wish I shortened the skirt before sewing, because the pattern as-is seems to be made for a 7ft. person 😄2. The pattern for the hat is not included, but I referred to her blog to make something similar.3. When choosing your plaid fabric, pick an asymmetrical pattern that creates equal size squares (not like mine, in which the black squares are bigger than the intersection squares and the red stripes don't meet up). MUST buy extra plaid fabric than recommended.4. The soutache part was very time-consuming, but turned out really beautiful and it really sets this garment apart from anything else I've made. Start early and give yourself enough time to complete this outfit.

Do not go by the sizing. Always follow the garment measurements. This pattern runs very small

It's exactly like it's described

Pattern is sized small has duplicate pattern pieces and missing pieces.

My mom wears a 14-16 so I thought for sure this , which goes up to 18-20 would be big enough , no way no how . The extra work to size it up is too much , I guess in these patterns she wear a 26? That’s crazy . Why so Small McCall? She loves the style but I doubt it’ll get made . I bought it for a Dickens costume even though it is much later in style . When , if we make it I’ll update my review .
