If used correctly with the correct flies, it allows them to float high and dry for a while.
I am new to this style of desiccant / float powders, heck, Mucilin silicone paste was high-tech when they brought that out! This stuff does indeed dry the fly off and applies an invisible coating that creates a hydrophobic barrier in that it really repels the water. The method to use in order to make sure that your flies float high and dry is to shake off the fly either by false casting or shaking vigorously to remove excess water then dip the fly into the tub, close the cap and shake well for say ten seconds, remove and either blow or false cast the dust off said fly, thereafter the fly will with a light presentation will float high and dry. Be aware that it will not allow any fly to float forever and will need reapplied occasionally and subsequently if you smash the fly into the water it will saturate pretty quickly as your aim is to allow the fly to delicately land on the surface film as in what a natural fly would do.
