Transformation in Christ: On the Christian Attitude

Wondering what it really means to be a disciple? This is it.
Although this book was written long before the 21st Century emphasis on becoming disciples rather than mere members of the Church, read in that context, it provides a detailed description of the inner change that is necessary and possible when one truly encounters Christ. This, in its truest sense is the life of a modern mystic.Highly recommend for anyone serious about their spiritual life.

Transformation in Christ
If you like St. Augustine, Thomas A. Kempis, St. John of the Cross, G.K. Chesterton and Thomas Merton, this book summerizes all of them. Written by a Catholic, it has no "Church" leanings except in it's deepest Philosophy. Reading it again for the second time. This book must be read slowly as it is a journey into the deepest parts of your soul. You will find yourself changing the way you think and act about everything. Each chapter is another few steps down into the dungeon of your most intimate being only to emerge into a new light of a brighter world. All written with a Scritural basis. NO sugar-coating here!Everyone seriously considering achieving the ultimate prize must read this book. You may want to read it slowly without outside distractions for as long as it takes since there are no wasted words. People will notice a change in you as you WILL be a new person. You will want everyone to read this, especially those closest to you.

Worth the read
Being an admittedly shallow human I tend to avoid spiritual writings like "Imitation of Christ" and other "Classics". However, in this effort Hildebrand includes many practical ideas and insights that I found profound.I would of given the book five stars but for its lack of brevity in parts. Admittedly withholding the fifth star is unfair given Hildebrand's is German - after all Germans tend to use a chapter to explain something that can be stated in a paragraph, a habit Hildebrand avoids.

"Transformation in Christ"
This is an excellent book if you are truly serious about growing in your spiritual life. Every paragraph can be read with simplicity - but can be thought about for a length of time if you choose to do so. The background on Dietrich Von Hildebrand's life is fascinating and inspiring. It is a spiritual work which is becoming more revealing in it's treasures and being studied and encouraged within the Catholic Church. Alice Von Hildebrand, wife of Dietrich, who is still alive, has conferences explaining, and teaching her husband's works. A must book for those of us who wish to grow in Christ - to be transformed into the man or woman God made us to be!!

Heavy spiritual reading
Classic spiritual text that is great but very heavy and needs to be taken in slowly and meditated upon. Definitely not a quick read and not for the beginner in terms of getting a better handle on your Christianity and especially Catholicism. If you've got your sea legs under you in this area however, I highly recommend this book.

Required Reading for those seeking spiritual growth
Great book by a great man. The Christian journey is crystallized in perfect clarity by Dietrich Von Hildebrand. This book is a must read for middle age Catholics who thirst for a higher knowledge of Christian living. In fact, all Christians should read it.

Transforming into a Christlike person
I am still reading this book. It is on the topic of how we can become the new creation in Christ, and abandonment from this world's attractions. It is an excellent book for the serious spiritual person of faith. It may take re-reading and time to grow in this transformation, but this is a wonderful to have help in the process.Pax et BonumPaul, CFP

This is a superb book, beautifully written and nicely sectioned to allow time for reflection before further proceeding in deepening one's understanding of the mysteries of Christ's gifts to all of humanity. A must for those who would seek to know more about the treasury of the Catholic Church and the life in Christ available to all.

Ever tried to express a spiritual thought and realised that you have to qualify it by an opposite?
von Hildebrand has given me the phrase 'coincidentia oppositorum'. This is an excellent book, to be chewed and mulled over. It is long, and sometimes there are passages I skip through fast but I can thoroughly recommend it to anyone wishing to deepen their everyday spiritual life.

A valued addition to every Christian library
This book is rightly described as a modern "Imitation of Christ". The author writes in a lucid and deep way on a topic which is clearly dear to his heart and flowing from his own fidelity to Christ. I am certain that all who study these pages will be helped to live the Gospels and bear the fruit of personal holiness. Willingness to be transformed in Christ is inseparable from loving Christ, and both lead to the joy of Christ.
