Ashley & JaQuavis are GENIUSES
the day this book arrived, I could not put it down, I read 90% of it all in one night - would've finished but had to finally go to bed eventually! As somebody who reads a variety of classic books and ones with high reputations, there is nothing thats had me hooked like this book!!About:this book is perfect if you love to read about black romance and drama that involves cartels/crimes (obviously). I can't wait to continue to read the entire trilogy!! I love the culture and slang involved in this book.

Extremely impressed, VERY good book!
I've heard about Ashley & JaQuavis for a while now but, as most book lovers will tell you, in the never ending universe of books there are stories and authors that just get lost in book space. You hear about it, you hear good things about it, you put it on your list... and then you keep adding to the list... then something happens that gets your attention. That something was hearing JaQuavis on "On The Air With Trice and Brian". Ashley unfortunately was sick).Hearing him talk about the craft, meeting Ashley, his love for other authors (I'll get to that in a minute), the new book coming out, and the real way in which he spoke... THAT'S what pushed them from my "authors to be read" pile, to my "next book to read immediately" pile. And that is exactly what I did.In my professional opinion `The Cartel' was completely and totally BAD ASS! That's it. I enjoyed everything about this book. This book started off with violence, fed us with violence, and (somehow) "ended" with us wanting more violence. Ashley & JaQuavis have that talent to build up a story then completely explode the foundation, and yet keep the story flowing like a busted hydrant in Harlem. The Cartel is run by a very strong figure in Carter Diamond. Unfortunately he meets his demise in the violence that I was telling you about earlier. He has two sons who are will take over... maybe. When Carter's other son makes himself known, the family isn't sure what to think. But they better make up their minds fast because the Haitians want the drug business and they will stop at nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing to take over. What I loved about this book was no one was safe. I'm reading one chapter where the main character (or so I thought) was doing their thing, and in the next chapter... BAM!! They chillin' at the crossroads. Florida hasn't seen this much blood since Andrew Jackson stopped by to say hello. While this book if rife with blood, violence, murder, and sexuality, it's the story that will keep you turning the pages. I usually don't read books in order and the rare times I do read a series I take a break in between books. That's just how I am. But guess what I'm reading now? Yep, `The Cartel 2'. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE has told me that this series only gets better. I've started book 2 and... wow. I can't wait until I finish this review so I can get back to that book. Seriously y'all, I'm not exaggerating in the least.Back to the top for a minute... one of the things that impressed me with JaQuavis was at the end of the interview when Brian asked him about their new book, `Murder Mamas'. He steered the conversation around to another author, K'wan. Classy and real. I was already impressed but this just cemented it. Now... there's a book waiting on me so I'm out like Ellen. Peace!!

Good read but a lot of main characters die already in the 1 nost book . However, I'm sure there will be plenty more diamonds that end up "coming back" or new ones

One Word, FANTASTIC!!!
I haven't read a hood book in years I must admit. So a friend of mine wanted me to read this book soooo bad. So I downloaded it on my Kindle 3 months ago and never read it. So after finishing my last book and staring at this book on my Kindle, I said let me go ahead and read this book. OMG OMG OMG, I can't believe I let this book sit for 3 months. What the hell was I thinking. This book was so damn good, I was making outburst on the train (yeah I'm from NY, Brooklyn to be exact). The story was mind blowing. Something kept happening at every chapter. I was loving the romance between Carter Jones and Miamor. Mecca hot ass make me sick. Things would run so much smoothly without his ass. I can't give the story away but I was hurting for Money and poor Breeze ain't ready. I'm feeling Zyir and his young ass, love his swagger. In fact, I'm loving him and Young Carter. The best part about reading this book so late is that I don't have to wait for the sequels because they already came out. I just finished reading The Cartel 2 and that book was really good too. I can't imagine finishing this book and then realizing that I have to wait a year for next. I would pull my hair out. So I'm happy that I can now move on to The Cartel 3 and The Cartel 4 comes out in just a few weeks so I don't have to wait too long. Thank Goodness. I highly recommend this book and I don't read hood books that much and even I can't deny the great storytelling behind these two authors. They were phenomenal and the writing was great too.

Gangsta land
This book is a page turner. It is filled with drama, violence, sex, and lots of suspense. The book revolves around Carter Diamond, and his family who run the Cartel, a drug operation in Miami.I liked the start of the book, with the way Carter Diamond Snr, was taken out, as that set the tone. The characters grew on me fairly quickly, my favourites were Young Carter,Polo and Miamor who likes to hide behind her hard shell. Towards the end of the book, I thought I had guessed what would happen, and then things were taken to another level, leaving me hanging. Betrayal, revenge, jealousy, loyalty,it is all there. It reminded me of the Sopranos, The Sopranos - HBO Complete Season 1-6 (New Packaging) [DVD ] and I hope this is made into a movie. I missed my train stop reading this several times, as I was so absorbed in what would happen next. I am looking forward to book two. This was my first book my this author, and I am hooked now. Fantastic read
I read all the reviews but didn't heed the advice by purchasing all the series, you should. A quarter of the way through the book I was actually kicking myself for not purchasing the whole set. If you don't like action in a book then this is not the book for you. I'm excited even writing the review remembering what the book entailed. Great read. Word of advice if you purchase the cartel along with various other books like I did make sure you read the others first, if not when reading the other books after the cartel they will seem bland, unless its a thriller or suspense book by Brandon Massey.

WOOOOOOW
im not really into gangster/ thug books, but this is better than anything i coud have imagined i would especially recommend this to anybody who thinks they dont like gangster movies/books. You WILL get hooked cause this book is beyond shootings and killing it actually has a gripping storyline which is the main focus here....However the book ends really bad leaving you with too many questions; so be prepare..... but other than that. BEST READ EVER!
