I was surprised at the number of negative reviews of these knives. After receiving them I'm a little less surprised. I know I'm spoiled by my Shun knives, but Shun are crazy expensive, and because they are so hard they tend to chip. These knives feel kind of ponderous in my hand in comparison. However, this set is forged and not stamped, is made of super durable steel, and the sharpeners in the block mean I'm not constantly using a steel on them. From the reviews I've seen, I feel like people expect these knives to be works of art that are also professional quality food prep tools. You can certainly find those if you're willing to pay $1500 for a set like this. For under $200 these are a bargain. If the handles chip I'll do a warranty return. If the blades rust, warranty. I don't really understand how people are complaining about defects with a knife that is still under warranty. At this point, I'm pretty happy.

My daughter bought this set of knives with money from her wedding. I used them while staying at her house and was so impressed I had to have a set. Storing the knives in the block on the counter top made room in one of my kitchen drawers for other things.

I've handled many knives over the years from grandparents Cutco to custom Damascus and non kitchen knives like spyderco. The deal on this knife set along side it's obvious quality makes it more than worth the money. Personally I'd prefer this over the Cutco knives because they have many similarities while at extreme opposites in terms of price. One being a bit over 1g and this one coming in at 160 after tax. Both have warranties so there's little reason to go for the more expensive in this case despite both having high quality. Only thing I've yet to fully utilize on this product is the self sharpening to take note on how effective it is.

Just got them and they look great. Packaging was good. Each knife is protected with a top guard, a cardboard sheath, and then individually wrapped in plastic. All come together in one box. Every piece came out of the box in perfect shape. The block is very attractive. All knives fit in their slots. Yes, some fit loosely, but that’s because you don’t want a lot of pressure against the honing devices that sharpen the blades.Many of the complaints I read about are really a non-issue. The paperwork makes it clear that hand washing and immediately drying each knife is the best way to maintain the equipment.I’m excited to use my second set of JAHenckel knives. The first set lasted 13 years. I anticipate this set lasting even longer now that they have assistance maintaining a well-sharpened blade.You cannot go wrong with this set.

Solid knife set, reasonable price and good function. Handles are covered with a spray on polymer that give the once piece knife a delineation between blade and handle. That covering does not survive dishwashing cycles and has, on most of the knives, partially peeled off giving them terrible appearance. My sense is that the whole set would look better without any coving on the handle but thats what theyve chosen to do. Unfortunately, it is not fit for purpose and after 6-8 months looks very bad.

Rusted after 6 months of normal usage. These were very expensive and I was overcharged.

Good gift item. Made well. Looks great. Easy to hold. Easy to tell where each knife goes for proper sharpening.EDIT: We have been using these since we purchased them. We like them a lot! Be careful! If you want sharp, these are sharp! I cut a towel drying one and the hubby has cut his finger twice so far. Lol! I do not put them in the dishwasher but I think it said you could?? Good purchase.
