Thrilling hunt for a killer!
James Patterson teams up with Marshall Karp for thrilling second instalment of the NYPD Red series. THis time around, Zack Jordan and Kylie MacDonald are dealing with a serial killer who's out for the wrong kind of justice. When the book begins, the Hazmat Killer - named for displaying his or her dead victims in hazmat suits - has already killed three people after forcing them to give video confessions. It's a tactic that would anger Dexter Morgen for sure. But Red is only called in when victim number four, a local celebrity, is found tied to the carousel in Central Park. What follows is a politically storm of the highest order, with the mayor doing everything he can to interfere in order to retain his job at an election that will go down in just a few days. Zack and Kylie really feel the pressure here. The book takes a few twists on it's way to finding the killer, and for good measure, a dangerous mafia dynasty with a personal vendetta is thrown in, adding an extremely tense climax. A few personal issues help keep characters on their toes, adding a new layer to the story. Zack has a girlfriend now, but their relationship is throated by an annoying English computer geek who apparently has the hots for her. Kylie's husband, meanwhile, has become addicted to painkillers following the events of the previous novel, straining her relationship with him and potentially her ability to solve the case.Ultimately, the book is a quality, unashamedly commercial thriller that will keep you up all night long. It's not quite the twisted roller-coaster ride of the previous instalment in the series, but it still turns out to be a great ride. Highly recommended.

Not Enough Stars
In my estimation this is one of Patterson's best. Strong characters with believable back stories that enhance the complex plot.3/4 thru the plot an exciting shift that keeps you up at night hurrying to the soothing climax and happy denouement.Looking forward to Red 3.

Two for Two!
Patterson has done it again! Although I could have done without the side story of Kylie and Spence, this was a nailbiter. The serial killer bit has been done and done again, but not like this. Patterson's strategy of introducing the young people and their plight then barreling into the story is masterful! Each character is drawn with a fine brush that identifies the flaws as well as the strengths. I was delighted to meet Matt Smith whose IT wisdom was compelling even in this day and age, but whose sarcasm and wit was so unanticipated and appreciated. Our talented duo of detectives were so vigilant with their skills but at times just plain lucky that some of their leads panned out. The political situation with the mayor election was a bit overplayed but did give a sense of urgency to the plot. The portrayal of the four NYPD cops is quite interesting and makes me glad that I am not dependent upon them for protection. The mob boss is evil incarnate and could be pictured easily as the traditional large, cigar-smoking, overweight, oily guy to be suspected anywhere you might meet him! As, I say, careful drawing of each character! But, the plot is sensational. Putting it down at 2 AM to get some sleep before an early morning was really difficult. Hurrying home to finish it, was really easy! Patterson at his best!

A vigilante serial killer with a supply of Hazmat suits
I have no history with Patterson or Karp so this book was fresh and new for me. Red is an elite police team with superstars Zach Jordan and Kylie McDonald, both brilliant at their craft and extremely good looking too. (I guess that is usually de rigueur for this genre unless you have a Columbo-type hero). They had a former fling with each other but that happened in an earlier book. Meanwhile Kylie has a drug addicted husband to worry about and Zach has a stunning super-intelligent girlfriend in Cheryl. It bugs me that Zach is so spot on in his sleuthing technique but awkward and blind in dealing with a woman. The bad guy is a serial killer of bad people aka a vigilante. He tortures a confession out of them and then posts it on YouTube. He then displays the dead victim in a Hazmat suit. When this story begins his bad person is from a famous and powerful family and suddenly the creme de la creme of the Red team: Zach and Kylie, are called in to solve it. Skillfully written, this story will keep you turning pages and wanting to know what happens next.

Easy, Fast Reading /Good Story Line
Very fast reading and attention holding. Liked the different story lines that will probably be weaving throughout this book.A rape and evidence destroyed out of fear for another family member. A plan put into place for revenge on the rapist.A funeral that resembles the style of a mafia family. As the police looks for the killer the family declares, during the funeral, "The family would make it's own justice". Could Mafia style revenge be in the works?A gang of kids beating up homeless people for the sport of it.A murder of what some called "the first lady of rich chicks". "Rich, famous and connected". NYPD Red takes the case. A special unit most officers would give their arm to be a part of. Another victim of what the media had dubbed the "Hazmat Killer"? Or was she killed by a copy cat to silence her because she was a high profile person running the campaign for the woman running against the present mayor? Or was she killed because of her past and what it seemed she had gotten away with?Looking forward to reading the rest of this book. Looking forward to finding out what other twists and turns will take place in this book.

Another interesting read.
Well in typical me form, I went and bought NYPD Red 3, Then thought i'll just check that I read book 2. And no I hadn't so here I am with book 2 so I can read book 3.Did I mention I realllllllllllllllllllllllllllly need to catch up on all my reading. I've been reading so many review book's, the book's i've purchased are piling up and up and up.So I've always enjoyed James Patterson book's The Alex Cross and The women's Murder Club oh and Michael Bennett being my favorites. This one as usual kick's off at a pretty fast past. James Patterson books, seem to be those kind of books that when you just don't know what to read, these will see you though. You know that 9 times out of 10 you are really going to enjoy his books. And with so many to choose from you can't go wrong, with something that will appeal to everyone. The book seemed to just flow along, not so many holding your breath moments, more a comfortable read. All ready knowing the killers from early on, the main part is figuring out how it's all going to come together, how the cop's are going to figure it out.I liked the main characters again in this book, and felt that we got to know them a little more. I'm now looking forward to reading book 3.

Fast & Furious
This is an excellent novel, which zips you along at a fast pace. Whilst you know the answers to the murders already it nonetheless grip you and you feel a part of the plots and sub-plots. The excellently constructed interwoven plots combining personal issues with the crime also blends seamlessly to create interesting elements you feel you must unravel all the same time. I was at time not able to put this novel down and would rather deprive myself of sleep just to know what else and what other twists and turns were in store in the next chapter.Though formulaic, and having read the previous NYPD RED, further personal issues relating to the personal lives of the characters allows you to get more into them as real people. They came over as more real in this second book, I look forward to what else can be revealed should there be a third book in this intriguing series. The main characters are seamlessly developing a fuller "real" status, yet if you had not known them from book 1, you were able to still understand them.Even the villains are so real and you almost want to side with them. And just when you think you know who they are, there is a sudden twist in the tail.Patterson's books are fast becoming my favourite "go to" books as they never disappoint. They conjure up real scenarios, real people, real events, realistic twists and turns, all intended to make even the occasional reader what to pick up another book. And another, and another.... Well done to JP and MK for what is, in few words, an excellent read.

Whoa! Never saw it coming.
I picked this up as I needed to read it for the next part of my reading challenge I am doing. Plus I wanted to know more on the new series I am starting.Well, it started off weird as I was like who are these characters and what have they got to do with the storyline. As the story progressed, it got more interesting and I thought I had the whole book sussed from about nearly a 1/4 way through the book. Well I got to 3/4 way through and I was like WHOA! I never saw that coming as I thought it was already sorted. I am so glad I got to read this book today and LOVED EVERY SINGLE SUSPENSEFUL MINUTE

High octane
The Hazmat killer is killing criminals the justice system can't punish and when he kills a high profile political advisor NYPD Red are called in. Vigilantism is not a new plot device but NYPD Red 2 still manages a high octane read with little let up in the action. If you want mindless escapism this may be the novel for you, but subject matter aside, I found the writing too simplistic for my taste. I wish to underline that this is a personal taste as I wholeheartedly support Mr Patterson's efforts in promoting adult literacy and know that not all his books are the same.
