especially given its place immediately after a good chapter on abortion and euthanasia
This book will contain no surprises for the majority of Evangelical Christians. Stott argues in general for what might be considered fairly normal conservative positions, yet always filled out with grace and a desire for redemption. However, I found John Wyatt's chapter on biotechnology somewhat dissatisfying, especially given its place immediately after a good chapter on abortion and euthanasia, in which Stott argues strongly for the sanctity of all life from the moment of conception. Wyatt then argues strongly in favour of stem cell research, without really mentioning the source of stem cells and the moral issues involved. The two chapters alongside each other seem incongruous.

Issues Facing Christians Today by Dr. John R. W. Stott
As one of the top Christian thinkers and writers in the 20th. Centrury, Dr. Stott!s book addresses many of the common issues facing the world today (such as same-sex relationships, euthanasia, marriage, abortion, etc.) from a basic Christian viewpoint, as found in the Scriptures. These issues surround all of us and are brought up by non-Christians frequently, who themselves should read this book for thoughtful and useful information about Christianity's position on these topics. This book will help to be knowledgeable about the issues and the answers and to answer others with faith , kindness and love while standing for the Scriptures properly. A must-have- book for all Christian believers and thinkers.C. Patrick Tharp, Ph.D.

Living in Today's Society
Here are all the issues we have to face today, asChristians - though written many years ago, they are still the same. Some of them, though, have become accepted by society, and Christians no longer dare to speak out against them. But here is the truth. There is a good chapter on caring for the environment, responsibilities God gave us in The Beginning.

Great gift for a Christian educator
I bought this book to teach a Christian Leadership class, and showed it to another instructor who is already certified to teach the course. He was so impressed by its content that he stated that he would order this book for himself as soon as possible. I gave him the book as a token of our friendship and to help us in this work of empowering/instructing other Christian believers. This is a book worth having in your library.

Pages are falling out
The content is good. However, the workmanship of the book is terrible. The first time I turned a page, it fell out!

Wise and Insightful
Even though John Stott died in the summer of 2011, this latest revision of his earlier work was fully approved by him before he died. It offers wise and insightful insights for church leaders around the world regarding what challenges are being currently faced and how to deal with those challenges. John Stott's passing means the world's intellectuals have lost a bright light.

Brings thoughtful balance to the issues of how deeply Christians should participate in today's issues
John Stott is a world renowned and respected author. He brings thoughtful balance to the issues of how deeply Christians should participate in today's issues of war, Atomic armaments and political partisanship. This is the kind of book that helps those who need it least, and is ignored by those who need it most!

None of the great issues of that - and this -time are dodged
The late Dr John Stott stands head and shoulders over most other Bible teachers. He devoted his entire life to teaching and serving as Rector of All Souls Church in central London. First published in 1984, this book is a bold attempt to apply the Bible's teaching to the emerging issues of the time. None of the great issues of that - and this -time are dodged, with chapters on Christians in a Secular Society, Global issues, Social Issues, Sexual Issues - ending on a call for strong, Biblical leadership in the Church.I personally do not know another Christian leader who is equipped to deal with these issues so clearly in the world today. If these issues are relevant to you (and i believe they are) then get amazon to track down a copy for you. There are still copies out there, somewhere!

Should be on all Christian Bookshelves
This book should be on the shelf of every Christian. John Stott and his editors take a no nonsense approach to all the great debates and issues facing Christians. Starting from the evangelical stand point that the Bible is the last word on a subject, but never settling for simplistic responses, the author explores all areas of an issue, and gently teases out the Christian response - the one that follows the example of Christ himself.Never satisfied with the stock answers, the Bible studies scripture and brings it to bear in all its fullness on an issue. The book is compassionately written by a man of faith.First class and highly recommended.

A good primer in Christian ethics.
The perfect primer for anyone looking for a Christian approach to ethics, maybe seeking a compassionate way to deal with those issues that challenge us in daily life.Probably even more relevant now than when it was published.

Great tool for lay person or cleric alike
Totally engrossed already. The book seems to answer or give a normal, everyday person or an ordained person, answers or food for thought to some of life's challenging issues. As a Christian - how to balance the WORD and the World. So far brilliant

Well worth a buy - I still have the one published in 1984 - but this supercedes it wonderfully helpfully.
Relevant and updated to current thinking with extra chapters for new topical issues. Well worth a buy - I still have the one published in 1984 - but this supercedes it wonderfully helpfully.
