Simple, effective, high quality
While I am not a boatswain, I know my way around dozens of knots that I use for hobbies, work, and everyday life. The simple combination of a good blade and small marlinspike found here is absolute perfection. I use this knife constantly when working on intricate knots (good luck dressing a lanyard knot without it), and for untying knots that are very well set.The blade is made of a decent grade of stainless. So far, I’ve not had to resharpen it. The G10 scales give just the right amount of traction, without snagging on anything. The marlinspike, while small, is an excellent tool when dealing with all but the heaviest of cordage.

Very well crafted, but a flimsy lanyard loop (-1 star for that)
An well crafted knife and marlin spike that opens relatively easily and both lock-in place. (The blade is easier to open with an assist catch, but the spike can be a little slippery to grip/open) The handle plates and knife are held together with flush-mounted torx-type screws (as opposed to protruding rivets) so it’s easy on the hands. The knife is compact and not too big. It definitely feels like a quality knife. I would have given 5 stars except the lanyard loop (bail) is both loose and thin so you might lose it if there is a bit too much pressure on your lanyard. The case is well made and can be worn on your belt either horizontally or vertically.

Love my new knife
Overall love my new knife. However, the blade lock would not engage under its own weight when received. I had to exercise the blade a lot to work off the burr or whatever it was preventing the lock. It works smoothly under own weight now.The spike is perfect. It’s not so pointy that you can injure yourself if it slipped. But pointy enough to poke through all knots I tested. Using para-cord. I like this knife for its size. It is not large making it a perfect pocket knife. The blade has a thumb thing I think to help open or close. For me it’s in the way and a big nuisance. Belt clip and lanyard ring wrong for this knife so I removed them.

Great knife with a bad lanyard loop
I really like this knife. I climb, so I like having a marlin spike knife for loosening knots in the ropes. This fits the bill. BUT, I would never rely on the little bit of bent wire that they call a lanyard loop. It's just a bit of wire that is bent around and stuck into holes on the sides of the knife. One tug on that and your knife's history. So I have to keep it in a pocket and do my best not to drop it off the cliff. If this had a real lanyard loop, this would definitely be a 5-star knife. Hey, Myerchin, how about it?

Nice materials, but....
I like this knife but it has some issues. Materials are high quality but the liner lock on the blade does not function properly right out of the box. You have to "snap" it fully open for it to engage fully. This is not a fully assisted opening blade either as the advertising would have you believe. Using the assist knob on the blade without a "snapping" action leaves the blade half exposed, something to be aware of if your knife is needed quickly. Marlin spike lock works ok. Given the cost I was hoping for a bit more in operational quality. I've got much less expensive assisted opening knives (1/2 the cost) that operated flawlessly. I'll hope for the best after more use.

Nice, yet wish it held a sharp edge longer
I like this knife, and it is one I keep in my pocket.I do wish the steel was harder. The blade doesn't hold a sharp edge very long. I mean, not long at all. So plan on packing a sharpener.

Beautiful tool, but too small for larger hands
Myerchin Generation 2 Black G10 Handle Crew is a beautiful tool. Really like the new style that has tabs to make 1 hand open a snap, but... I am a big guy and the handle barely spanned across my first 3 fingers. Should have taken a photo. 5 star knife, but holding back 1 star because Specs did not include detailed measurements. It would have been helpful to have a comparison between the Crew and the Captain versions of the knife. Maybe a photo of both side by side with a ruler. Return was quick and easy. Spent a few more bucks and ordered the Captain version and it fits larger hand more comfortably.
