The Company of Preachers: Wisdom on Preaching, Augustine to the Present

Historical perspective
The Company of Preachers takes a line from scripture as quoted in Handel's Messiah for its title. Nice pick! It's a great book to give some historical perspective to young preachers. It also helps mature preachers to put their ministries into a larger context. It contains many gems not found in other books. It is a good book to curl up with on a cold night if you are a preacher. On the other hand it is a bit narrow in focus. Many important preachers are left unnoticed. It lifts out preachers of a certain perspective (perhaps the author's?). Its strength lies in airing ancient voices who had a lot to say about preaching. We may gain a more objective historical perspective elsewhere, but this unique collection will warm your heart to the challenge of preaching. It isn't so much naming the most important preachers, but rather highlighting those who have sought to define or redefine preaching, those who have reflected deeply and theologically on their craft in their own time. I would love to hang out with any of them. This side of heaven, this book is my best shot at that!Highly recommended for preachers of all kinds!

Arrived on time
The media could not be loaded. This is a clasic. I enjoyed reading it. It quite simple and refreshed my memory on the theologies of the eras. Every preacher must get a copy of this book

Well written and quite easy for a layperson to follow. Even if you have never seriously studied this subject before.Let's hope the author writes more!
