01 (1/10/2016) Basic book that reads easily at a high school level reading comprehension
Price: $71.01 (1/10/2016)Basic book that reads easily at a high school level reading comprehension. Good to get across the definitions and principles of various topics that might not be a public health professional's concentration. Book is good at getting the job done. I'm just not a fan of the topics.Ch13 on mental health runs into some legal trouble. My professor explicitly told my Managerial Public Health class to not read this chapter while he checked with our school's legal professors. Basically the authors tell readers how to diagnose personality and mental health disorders. This treads dangerous ground legally, since the advice can promote discrimination against those with mental health disorders. That was some fun drama.Might update once the course ends.Ps. Do cool reviewers say they are unbiased since they spend their own money on a product?

Brief and Well Written.
This book is required for my Intro to Health Policy & Management class. The chapters presented in the book tie nicely with the topic of public health management. Each chapter provides a good deal of information while keeping them within a reasonable length. I feel that too many textbooks use unnecessary padding and jargon that ends up breaking the flow of reading, which this book thankfully avoids. Each chapter has a cheesy but useful "case study" (in quotes because they're way too idealistic to actually happen) that helps integrate all the concepts of the chapter into a "real-world" (again...none of this would probably happen the way it does in real life) scenario. Also provided are various online resources at the end of each chapter for further reference and reading. I highly recommend the book, even if you aren't currently taking a class related to public health management. The book is useful to a wide variety of professionals, including health care managers, health officers, or anyone interested in implementing the concepts of health care leadership(public health or otherwise) in their career. I'll definitely be keeping this book around for that reason.

Required for class but still a good read
This book was required for my Public Health Administration course online. I ended up reading almost this whole book cover to cover to write papers for my course. I must say compared to many other textbooks, this one was easy to read and had good application examples to help you understand the material. It helped a LOT in my application projects. I would recommend getting it if you are taking a similar course.

Good Reference
I have added this to my library of reference sources. Have given it to a friend for her to review and she ended up ordering one, too. If you are a novice or an expert in public health, this book can serve you well.

This is one of those books you don't sell back, as you will refer to it beyond your school years into your career.

I rented this book for only school. I would ...
I rented this book for only school. I would not buy but I took the class as an elective; not as someone who is entering the field.
