This book is a MUST read for anyone interested in Indo-European views on the Afterlife
This book is basically your guide to death and the afterlife if you are interested in ancient Indo-European (IE) culture or you are a modern Neopagan looking to dive deeper into European polytheism. This book is actually a collection of essays that the author has written over the years compiled to give a overview of how IE culture approaches death, the nature of sacrifice, and he also gets into health and medical practices. The only reason the book is getting 4 stars instead of 5 is that the first couple chapters, he gets political and even though some of his insights are interesting, especially in regards to the historical development of IE linguistic studies, it could have been left out of the book and it would have took nothing away from the core material in the book. You can skip the last chapter of the book for the same reasons.
