My daughter's favorite
My daughter read this with her class and loved it so much, she asked for her own copy at home. Does deal with sensitive subjects like disability & loss.

The Seeing Eye - Morirs Frank and Buddy (His Female Guide Dog)
Morris Frank and Buddy. Another true story of the first Guide Dog for the Blind in the USA.Morris Frank trained with Buddy overseas in the Swiss Alps by Dorothy Eustis and Jack Humphrey.Good book; teaches how the blind (Morris) was trained to feel different movements of the dogs harness to know what the dog is doing, where to walk, when to stop, start, turn.Morris is taught how to work with Buddy, how to care for her.Buddy saves Morris's life on a old county road. Protects his money! Then it's back to the USA where Morris and Buddy 'equal partners' with help from Dorothy and Jack train other people to be teachers and open the first Guide Dog School; The Seeing Eye. Thousands of blind people were trained to use and care for a guide dog.The Idea of using guide dogs for the blind originated in Germany. Jack Humphrey was trained in a school in Germany. Possibly other countries, people in the past worked this way with dogs. Dog (wolf) and humans since ancient times!

A True Story
Watched the story of Buddy in a Disney movie that is not available on DVD. Wanted the book to read.It is made for children but it still tells the story of the first seeing eye dog in America.

Good for home schoolers?
I liked the book. It's full of information. It's simply written for new readers. One small problem is the the page numbers are so close to the edge of the page that it appears the book's assembly was a bit off. Might be priced a bit high.

Guide Dog for the Blind
Dogs are of special interest to children, and this book about the first guide dogs and Buddy, the first in the United States, is outstanding. This Scholastic Reader is identified for a suggested reading level, although it's appeal transcends age and reading ability.

Great educational options for young readers!
This book series is perfect for my students! I especially like the fact that there are quite a few interesting, educational options in this series, and not just narrative options.
