I Love the Kai Brand!
Kai is a well known brand for quality cutlery in Japan. I also own fabric shears and nail clippers from Kai, which are both excellent.I’m very pleased to replace our old kitchen shears with a Kai product. These are very sharp and work well. I can never go back to those cheap kitchen shears from big box stores!

Works very well, no rust problems yet, quality of materials could be better
I have waited a month before reviewing to see if any problems develop. Overall, I’m satisfied with these kitchen scissors, but I do have some criticisms.Stainless steel? At first I was concerned about whether these are truly stainless steel. Tested with a fridge magnet and, they are magnetic. However, it turns out that 18/8 (or 304) stainless steel are slightly magnetic so this isn’t definitive. Also, the hinge pin is NOT magnetic…so that part is a different metal, but is it a different type of stainless steel or an entirely different type of metal? What I can say is that the blades are holding their edge pretty well and that rust has not yet developed (about 80% of the time by hand, occasionally in the dishwasher).A little more on hinge pin: the metallic cap on the outer side of the blade with the hinge pin…it’s really plastic with a faux chrome finish. From the pictures, it looks like a bolt that you could potentially tighten. That’s purely cosmetic and there is a little bit of wiggle in the pin. I’m not going to break the plastic cap to check this out, but at this point it’s likely to be just riveted underneath the cap (which MAYBE I can tighten a bit with a hammer, but it could also make it worse).Cutting action: I mentioned that there is a bit of wiggle in the hinge pin on my sample. Luckily it does not seem to impair the cutting action of the blade, which is among the smoothest I’ve used in a kitchen shear. Also, the handles look bulky, but they’re very comfortable to hold, are grippy enough when wet, and are less fatiguing than our other shearsSimplicity: I have another set of shears that have a sturdier build (also made in China), but with multiple functions. However, the cutting action is not as good or smooth. In addition, the blade has a bone notch, which is great for dealing with chicken bones but is inconvenient with cutting other things as the usable cutting length of the blade is greatly reduced. Furthermore, the geometry of the two blades are complicated and I rarely get it right the first time when I reassemble them after cleaning. The simpler design of the Kai offers me two big advantages I appreciate: 1) I can use the full length of the blade for cutting, making it more convenient and quicker, and 2) it is much easier to properly orientate for reassembly.Overall, I’d say that these are very functional and holding up well and I give them a 5 on those aspects. However, there are problems with the quality of materials and build around the hinge pin (which is usually the point of failure for scissors), so I must subtract points especially at this price point.

Does the job for a decent price
Even though they are large enough, my hands are big enough that I tend to get my fingers stuck. They are good and sturdy and look like they're going to last a long time.

Too big for my hands
My husband loves these scissors and keeps telling me how much better they cut than any other pair we've owned or tried - but I just can't get them to work for my small hands. The loops are flexible so I just put my hands over them and squeeze, but clearly this is not ideal. Looks like my husband and I are going to have his and her kitchen shears!

Comfortable to hold, super sharp!
Great kitchen shears! We'll see how the edge holds up, but our local Ace Hardware can sharpen scissor blades if it dulls too much over time.

Works well enough
This was rated high over and over. I can tell you that it is an average kitchen scissor. Its not as sharp and sturdy as advertised. My old one that had electrician tape holding the plastic grips together was more sturdy but not sharp anymore. I had those for almost 10 years and used it for everything. If you used the new one here is a slight awkward manner, it will bind and not cut because it flexes too much. These will not last as long as my old cheap ones from 10 years ago. Try purchasing a professional rated scissor which does not have a not of ratings. Go with your gut and research on the name. I bet those will do well. Unfortunately, they cost 3 times more but it will be worth it. I plan on purchasing one soon.

The best kitchen shears
Have never used better kitchen shears. And the two parts separate for cleaning. Highly recommended.
