Herbal Antibiotics: Natural Alternatives for Treating Drug-Resistant Bacteria (Storey Medicinal Herb Guide)

A must read for all!!!
Excellent Book for learning about alternatives to pharmaceutical antibiotics. Everyone should read this if you care about your health and the health of future generations. We are becoming so antibiotic resistant, new bugs forming and mutating, it is making us sick and killing us. Pharmaceutical antibiotics kill all the good along with the bad and wreck havoc on your system. Then some are made with even more damaging and harmful chemicals like Fluoride. quinolones are very dangerous and the damage is almost irreversible! Please do yourself and everyone a favor and read this book and learn about healing your body instead of setting it on fire! Antibiotics are rarely ever needed. My family has gone 15 years without antibiotics and that is with my husband and I and my two kids now almost 10 and 6.5. Yet how many families do you know that at least one person is on antibiotics at any given time of the year. People need to learn about real healing. Pharmaceuticals DO NOT HEAL YOU! They only "suppress" symptoms and the havoc they cause may be worse than what they are treating. For most of us if we treat the issue first hand before it gets to the point of "no return" we could save ourselves a lot of heartache. We could go a long long way with garlic and vit C to heal our bodies. This book is very brief overview but it will get your feet wet and is a great resource and jumping off point. It is definitely something everyone looking for health to look into. Antibiotics will only continue to do more harm if you keep on that cycle.

Great Value, Great for Beginners
I was very interested in herbs, but also found them overwhelming. This work set me at ease and increased my interest in herbs. The book is well written and easy to understand. The author kept things simple so that a beginner like me can succeed. The author makes a strong case for the use of herbs as an alternative to antibiotics. This is a classic work that will no doubt influence a return to natural plant medicine. It is a short and simple book which makes it ideal for a beginner.

Very engaging first chapters, then very helpfull content
Can not recommend more. First chapters on antibiotics history, bacteria development, and then natural remedies.. soo good sooo helpful. Gonna add couple plants to my garden.. Interesting and trustful mixture of natural and western medicine.. Telling the truth, I am not a big friend of.. "test on mice recorded..." as I am much more into natural methods and truly I do not need to parasite on mice tests when all herbs are in fact already tested on humans.. but for many people, this author's approach may work as introduction to the world of natural healing...

Should Be Kept In Your Medicine Cabinet
This is a very well researched book. Stephen Buhner does an excellent job of describing why it is so important tofind natural alternatives to prescription antibiotics, which - unlike the latter - don't cause resistance in the types of bacteria which live in the human body.Buhner also lists a large number of herbal remedies which when used as prescribed, can be utilized to effectively treat virtually any illness. This book was a benchmark when it was published in 1999 and has only become more important since that time, since all allopathic antibiotics are destined to become useless in the future because of the antibiotic resistancewhich they create when treating aggressive antibiotic infections such as pseudomonas and clostridium difficile.Highly recommended reading.

A great start on a big subject
A very basic and limited review of the subject (it is only 100 pages long) but worth reading every page. Concise information on a carefully selected number of herbs. A great start on a big subject. I don't think the title accurately reflects the contents, which includes as much on strengthening the immune system as it does antibiotic properties of herbs. Well written and organized.

Useful information
As a retired pharmacologist, I'm finding herbs are more powerful and safer than drugs. Yes, even replacing antibiotics. I don't fear hugging sick people or wash with antibacterial soap. Yet, I am rarely sick any more, and when I am, it's not for long. Good chapter on why commercial antibiotics, with a single compound and single mechanism of action, are so much easier for a bacteria to develop resistance to than a plant with multiple compounds and multiple modes of action. This small book has become one of my go-to references.

This book has been a Godsend
After my 7 year old daughters 5th episode of phenomena & antibiotics (which became less effective each time) in 9 months, I turned to this book in desperation. I found information that changed the course of the next 2 years. Tedious, demanding & difficult for children...but with perseverance it works! I taught her how to swallow pills, and proved to her the herbal teas would make her feel better, it all ended. Pneumonia rears it's ugly head often, but we face it head on with GSE (grapefruit seed extract), mega doses of garlic and thyme tea 3 times a day. I supplement with astragalus, Echinacea and vitamin C. As soon as a cough begins, the ritual begins. It's tough and demanding but man-made antibiotic free

Un buon libro
Un libro scritto bene, con nozioni utili e aggiornate, indicazioni sugli utilizzi delle singole piante, descrizioni accurate, sicuramente un buon testo monografico.

Always a good idea
I read this book after having read Dr. John McKenna's book. Consequently this one was a slight disappointment as there were not as many riveting case studies, but nonetheless excellent, especially with the added recipes it offers. I believe that any book which advocates the use of herbs more than conventional medicine should be read. However, I would advise reading McKenna's book, probably first, as it demonstrates right at the start the degree to which Westerners are dependent upon drugs and the subsequent harm they do us. Buhner's book merely supports the latter with, as I mentioned, a few useful recipes.
