Gigabit media converter works very well
This fairly inexpensive device saved us thousands of dollars by using existing fiber for a regular ethernet connection. We have a building across the street from our main office and all we had run was fiber so without having to purchase an expensive switch we could convert the one fiber run into copper ethernet. This device worked as expected right out of the box. It is full speed and we are getting just above 100 MB/s (Mega Bytes, not bits) over this connection. We have several and won't hesitate to purchase more if needed.

Works great as optical isolator
Can be used to create an optically isolated bridge between two points when used with an optical fibre (direct attach cables will not be well isolated, power supply has to be isolated as well). Works well at line rate.

Great Media Convertor
Nice and easy media convertor. Worked well with Cisco and Nokia SFPs. Also works with the knock off FS.com SFPs. Will be my go to for an economical MC.

Work well in industrial environments
I buy lots of items of network items on Amazon and these transceivers work well. Work with multi mode or single mode fiber SFP Modules.

A simple way to extend a broadband connection without signal degradation
The StarTech gigabit media converter is a simple solution for extending an internet conection over fiber optic cable with no appreciable degradation of the signal over long runs. It is effectively a junction box.We have tried a anumber of solutions for getting a solid signal in our son's room. Our house is oddly configured, long and narrow. His room is at the opposite end of the house from our modem which connects to several computers in our home office. As a consequence he has been doiing his homework in the living room for ears, which makes it effectively unusable for everyone else. This year we got a good router and extender which gave us complete coverage, or so I thought. My son still complained of dropped signals, and is also uncomfortable with a wireless connection (feeling that it is unreliable). This box gave us the ability to run a solid connection to his room (as well as others) at the opposite end of the house without having to bring in the cable company and pay for a second connection. Likely as not they would have offered a similar solution, but with an additional monthly fee attached. While I enjoyed losing the wires, there is much to be said for a solid wired connection. Our wireless set up is very good most of the time, but I have experienced buffering issues when streaming video t the other end of the house. This box solves that problem for us. Wireless signals degrade with distance; fiber optic does not. While this is meant primarily for office/ industrial application, it is also useful for those who, like ourselves, are looking to extend a signal over a long run. It provides a secure reliable signal free of interference. The box comes with current adapters but no cabling. Ours was missing the instruction manual. It is, however, very easy to use, effectively 'plug and play'. Set up took about 15 minutes (but ours was very straight-forward). For those who need more connections it can be run to a switch. We were looking to provide a single solid network connection to a modem at a distance where wireless became unreliable. The StarTech converter solved the last of our network woes.

An easy way to terminate fiber instead of getting a full ...
While this is billed as a fiber extender, it's essentially a box with a SFP port and a cat5 gigabit port. This means you can connect most anything that goes over SFP, although designed for fiber, you could potentially use an ethernet SFP or other (not sure complete compatibility here). Ultimately it would be a lot of extra money just using Ethernet SFP, so you really want this for fiber termination. An easy way to terminate fiber instead of getting a full switch with SFP or other more expensive connection.

We have connectivity issues in our house, especially the family room where we gather to watch movies and there is nothing worse than being sucked into a movie and having it freeze and waiting and waiting for the wifi connection to work again. One of those electronic geeks told us this kind of devise would not work, that we needed to re-wire our house and install another modem, blah blah blah costing hundreds of dollars. I came across this devise and thought, let me give it a shot and WOO HOO, it worked! My husband was critical thinking it would lower the speed of connection and affect the quality of viewing but no, it works just fine. Maybe the quality is a slight step done (he swears he can see a difference) but movies no longer stop due to loss of connection soooo I'm gonna say this devise is a winner. It was fairly easy to set up and had it working within minutes. I strongly recommend trying this devise before other costly methods.

Worked Perfectly
I plugged in a fibre and cat 5 ethernet and it worked immediately, with excellent speed results. It also worked with a Cat8 cable. The fibre cable was 30m LC multimode and the switch is a TP link.
