Great Combination!
I loved this combination of books. I usually don't read anything in this time period but I was curious. The Ottomans were much more than I expected-lots of intrigue, diplomacy, warfare and culture and an empire to rival the size of Rome at its peak. Keeping a notebook on the succession of the Sultans and the multitude of prince's helped a lot. Complex as some of the thrillers I have read. I also liked his style of writing on these three. It kept me interested.

Drastic changes in style of narration that maybe don't get along well with history books.
4 stars for first book, 2 stars for second book and 3 stars for last one.* Rise and Fall of the Ottoman Empire.Fast paced, entertaining and tragic. The world was changing but still that part of the world was potent and is an intense piece of history that maybe we are not taught enough. This was a good little piece of information.* The Fall of Constantinople. The style of narration didn't work for me: The author tries to rely in irony and in a more informal description: he repeats so much "more about that later," twice in one single page. It seems like this book is trying hard to be entertaining for readers that dislike history or to read, so it tries to be a youtube video rather than historic description.* Life of Suleiman the Magnificent. This book has a bit too the casual tone of the previous one, but it has been watered down a bit. I prefer more the style of narration of the first one where the history is the main character rather than the narrator. But here still we have the points of views of the author tainting the nature of the past with points of view of today. I mean the judgement of Suleiman as a father and a friend. Still it was a useful book that encouraged me to search more.Asimov's "Constantinople: the forgotten empire" is not directly related to the topics of this book, but if you decide to get deeper in what Constantinople meant and why was so important for the Ottoman empire then that book is extraordinary.

Thorough!
In these books we see one of the most dominant empires from ancient or close to it times until the early 1900s. An empire that lasted such a long time . This gives all one needs to know about the Ottoman Empire. Good & bad rulers along with their decisions impacted the world at the time & beyond.Excellent job by Captivating History.

Not very good
The book is more about a list of the Sultans then the empire. The list of Sultans is also not very good, it tends to jump and lose connection. I would look for a better history of the empire then to this book.
