Psycho III (Collector's Edition) [Blu-ray]

it was ok
Anthony Perkins followed the golden rule on Cannon. So, the story line did not alter. Very good! In this film we see a more progressive Norman Bates finally mingling with woman. No matter what though he just can't escape himself and his past trauma with his mother and of course this leads to trouble. This film series greatly promotes the theory that psychopaths aren't born that they are made. I know there is a fourth film in the series I don't know if I'm quite ready to watch it yet.

NORMAN RETURNS
PSYCHO 3This is a great series of films and has one of the greatest performances of all time in each film by Perkins as one of the greatest film characters of all time. Each film I have honestly enjoyed and that goes for all five, yes five. That is three theatrical originals, the TV film and then the remake, yes even the remake. Still this was a fun addition to the series with Perkins also directing. After the events that transpired only a month or two ago a journalist is convinced that Norman is killing again. Meanwhile Norman hires a new manager for the Motel as he has other problems going on, namely the arrival of a young lady that reminds him of someone from his past. All four are set for a collision, or is all still in his head? This third film much like the second I believe is a worthy sequel to the classic original . The acting is excellent much like the previous films and I thought Perkins did a great job behind the camera as well. Writer Charles Pogue gave us a fun story and also provided and excellent and informative commentary on the Scream Factory release. We also get some vintage behind the scenes and interviews. This like part 2 is highly recommended.

Psycho III resets the series standard
Anthony Perkins returns for his third turn as the emotionally-torured Norman Bates and also directs the film. The result is an improvement on the good sequel with some clever plot twists and surprises. This film picks up where Psycho II left off with Bates having killed off a woman fasely claiming to be his mother. Norman takes in a new motel manager, Duane Duke played by Jeff Fahey and Maureen Coyle, an emotionally-fragile nun novitiate (Diana Scarwid). But, Norman's demons and a pesky reporter, Tracey Venable (Roberta Maxwell) surface to ruin his new start and budding romance with Maureen. This film has some good scare moments and fine performances by all.

Pretty good slasher flick
Despite having the number 3 in the title, this film is actually better than the standard slasher sequel of the 80's. Anthony Perkins returns to his signature role as the unstable hotel owner but also directs this entry. Perkins tries hard to make his own horror movie and not fall back on the Friday the 13th formula but also manages to give the movie a look and feel that fits in with the 80's slasher movies we know and love. The subplots of the emotionally unstable nun and the sleazy drifter definitely add to the story as well. Shout Factory also included plenty of extras and new interviews on this Blu Ray for the fans to enjoy.

Homage To 80s Slashers
Scarwid is excellent as the confused/ex nun. She is the core character and semi-heroine in this film. Directed by "Norman Bates" himself, this film is fun and offers a great screenplay with a direct tie-in to Part 2: a true sequel. With the "Lois Lane" wannabe tracking "Norman's" every move, to the "Down Home" Sheriff who delivers a slight bit of comedic relief, to the "Stud Budding Musician", all the performances were top notch and no one player can be singled out as being the "best". This film is pure 80s fun with chills and a little gore. GOOD JOB TO THE FILMMAKERS!

Okay, not great
This was just okay for me. I believe it was the first time we actually saw Norman's face as he was dressed as Mother, rather than side or back shots. I wanted to watch all chapters in this story so I'd be fully prepared to watch A&E's final season of Bates Motel, as I've watched all the other seasons so far. But this sequel didn't really add too much more to the story. At times it seemed a bit silly. I believe there was actually a Psycho IV that was a TV version if I read correctly, but I don't think it'll be necessary to try and track that down to watch it because I don't believe there's really much more to add to this story.

Needed? Not Really..But Still Worth the Time
Right, so was a sequel to "Psycho" even needed? Was a sequel to a sequel needed?? No...but as sequels go, this one is not bad, Norman is his twitchy self, and the story kept my interest, it wasn't just dashed together. Anthony Perkins himself directed it, and I say he did a fine job. It has a nice creepy vibe to it, and I think there are enough flourishes and touches to the film that I think Hitchcock would have been proud.

"..ANOTHER GREAT 80's SEQUEL.."
This may not be as good a sequel as part 2 but I still love it, Norman bates is back played by the awesome Anthony Perkins who brings so much life into this character making him so believable, this time the story continues with Norman doing up his motel and getting on with his life, then a mysterious girl walks into his life bringing up memories from the past and Normans inner battle with his mother starts over again with a series of brutal stabbings! Once again there's plenty of cool bloody kills, not too many as before but good ones none the less, the cast is all good with a few familiar faces like Jeff Fahey co-starring, Anthony Perkins once again like I said steals the show with his creepy and eccentric portrayal of a psycho killer, he certainly is the best movie psycho of all time, the movie alone is worth watching for him, its also directed by Perkins who I think did a good job, its certainly a breath of fresh air compared to most 80's slashers, once again a good creepy soundtrack score, worth checking out if your a cult 80's psycho slasher fan.The region 1 USA DVD has a decent picture quality, 1hr-33mins, no special features. 1986.The UK DVD from the 1-4 box set has a same quality picture and is the same uncut version, no features either.

It's been good towatch this again after so many years
It's been good to watch this again after so many years. It's an uneven film but Perkins's tragic killer is still a compelling watch. Still sadly missed. Diana Scarwid and Jeff Fahey are also excellent. With regard to the special features, while Fahey is an excellent interviewee, it's a shame they couldn't find any archival interviews or even better on the set footage of Perkins from the time.Fantastic Carter Burwell score that is so overdue for CD release. Come on Universal. I've had the vinyl for 28 years. Too long.

NORMAN JUST CAN'T SEEM TO KEEP A GIRLFRIEND
This is the R1 release of Psycho 3.It's 1.85:1 widescreen and the prettygood picture fills all of a modern TV screen. So Norman's creeping about again, twitchinghis face & giving us plenty of one sided smilesas only Perkins can. A big thank you to thereviewer(s) who've stated this print is uncut &so is the one in the UK Psycho box set (i think).1986, wig/check. old biddys frock/check. dirty great knife/double check
