The tailstock was purchased to replace one that had been abused by high school students. This seems to be a good one.

I purchased this live center to replace my old one which wobbles a tiny bit when it spins, but the only problem is that the new one wobbles just as much! The product contains moving parts which could easily be damaged even on light impact, and unfortunately it wasn't packaged very well for shipping. The item itself is only packed in a little, thin plastic case about 4-5 inches long with a tiny foam pad at the tip. This was placed in the corner of a cardboard box about 12 inches long along with a little book I ordered. 3 sealed air bags were placed on top of these items in that box. That heavy little live center placed in the corner of that box with little protection probably saw more than it's fair share of hard knocks during shipping so I can't entirely blame the product itself. I opted for a return instead of a replacement because I didn't want to deal with the hassel of packing it up, waiting for it to be inspected, then waiting for a new one to ship all while hoping the replacement would be good, with the possibility of having to do it all over again. If I had more samples and they were all bad then I would give it 1 star. But since I really don't know if it's the product itself or just improper packing, I gave it a neutral 3 stars. The one good thing I can say about this product is that the point or spike is shaped so that I could apply much more pressure with the tailstock without cracking or spliting any small wood pieces when I was trying it out. Anything other than light pressure from my old Jet live center was highly likely to crack small pieces.

Real good qualityGreat fit in my Rockwell 46-140 (11”) wood lathe which has a #1MT tail stock dead center that burn smokes the wood your turning. Not anymore with this live center!

After reading previous reviews about the quality of the bearings on live centers (I bought 3 different live centers at once from PSI), the first thing I did was just turn it by hand. Amazing how this could have left China never mind PSI... it was junk. The bearing just crunched (for want of a better word) as it turned. Since I live in Philly and so are they, and I didnt want to send back in the post for a replacement and get another one also of dubious quality, I drove round to their place and got it replaced and tested before I left the building. Me and the guy who I was dealing with went through at least 5 others before I came across a good one.I would have given this product 1 star, but because PSI was accomodating in replacing it with a decent one, I give 3.I would have replaced the bearing myself but it looked too much of a challenge.

it works as advertised but the workmanship is on a level you would expect for something priced as it is. It is not machined nearly as nicely as the one I got with my Powermatic lathe. I wonder how long it will last with regular use. It may last forever but as a general rule learned from 50 years of buying tools, if it is that roughly made they probably didn't splurge on a high quality bearing. For the money it's just OK. Would have given it a 3.5 had the option been available.

I ordered MT1 and was delivered an MT2 piece. From reading the other reviews, this seems to have happened before. I'm returning the incorrect part, but don't want to re-order as I expect I'll just be delivered the incorrect taper again.As for the product quality, seems to have been accurately cut and looks like it would do the job of replacing my dead-center tailstock fitting.
