SCICON Hippo 550 Saddle Bag

Flew off the fastener then got run over by another cyclist. Thrown out after 4 months.
The fastening mechanism on the saddle bag is very clean but unfortunately very weak and not very secure. I liked the aero looking aspect of the bag but the mechanism that attaches to the seat rails is not very secure and prone to loosening. Also, the way the bag attaches to the fastener under the seat does not provide a positive lock, it uses friction to keep the bag from rotating off but it doesn't take much to knock it off. The saddle bag finally flew off during a group ride where another cyclist accidently ran it over, thankfully he wasn't hurt but zipper was torn in half and unusable. The capacity of the bag is quite small, I could fit in (2) tire levers, (1) spare 700C tube and (1) multi-tool. I would not recommend this saddle bag to anyone.

Best velcro-less bag I've found
There is nothing more aggravating than finding that your velcro attached saddle bag has rubbed a hole in an pair of bib shorts that cost three or four times what you paid for the bag. Then you notice that as dirt and sand have collected under the strap that holds it to you seat post it has worn through the paint to the carbon fiber.I have tried a number of other bags with various attachment mechanisms and this one wins hands down. I tried the Fizik bags, but the attachment is too fragile for a bunny-hop when you have to avoid a pot hole when riding in a group. I ordered one of the Lezyne bags that attaches to the seat rails, but its clamp will only attach on the seat rails at the seat-post clamp width. Which is a problem if you require your seat to be forward enough in the clamp such that there isn't much room left at the rear. The base of the Roller 2.1 attachment is wide enough to attach very near the top of the rails where they attach to the seat and does not need to be so tight as to damage carbon seat rails. You do need to make sure it has been tightened enough that when the bag is attached it won't slide about, but that's easy enough to do.I do wish there was a little more positive engagement of the mount at the end of the quarter turn to attach the bag to the base, but it is still stays firmly attached and hasn't detached during a bunny-hop yet.As others have commented, there is enough room in the Hippo 550 for a CO2 canister, tube, multi-tool, and some other small essentials such as a spare chain link and quick patches. They also make a bag with a 695 capacity if you require more space.

No velcro, works well
I have a hole in one of my favorite bibs due to the velcro that my old saddle bag used. I can't stand bags that use velcro, they're just a problem waiting to happen. I'm pretty happy with the SciCon Hippo--it holds just enough; I can fit one tube, a CO2 inflator, 2 CO2 canisters, a Park Tools IB-2 mini-tool, a spoke wrench, a set of latex gloves, and a patch kit, and still barely get the thing zipped.I just bought my third one of these, all for different bikes. I'm sure you *could* break the clamp off, but I haven't had any issues, and it's fairly sturdy.

serious fitting limitation
i loved this bag. it is great looking and good quality. why 2stars. because it has very limited ability to install it. if your seat is adjusted to sit mid point or further to the front, there is no space on seat railing to hook it. distance between seat railings going upward becomes grater and no matter how hard i tighten the clamp it kees sliding down , it loosens up and eventally then bag falls off. Also if your seat post is oval in shape, mae it even worst, the bag is pushing against it and cant fit. loved it, but had to return.

Perfect Bag!
I am very happy with this saddle bag! Perfect size to hold a tube, multi tool, CO2 kit and patches with a little room left over. I really like how quick and easy the design allows you to mount and unmount bag and the built in tire levers are very convenient. The feature I like most is the bag sits under the seat and does not interfere with your legs when peddaling. My bike has an aero seatpost and I was not able to mount other bags because of interference with the post. This bag mounts on the seat rails and looks very aesthetically pleasing.

Works great
I haven't had any issues yet as described by others. One tip is to tighten the clamp from time to time (vibration does loosen it).

Great option to avoid a seatpost strap
I've been using an Arundel Dual seat bag for a while and wanted to try something different - but I still required something that doesn't have a velcro strap around the seatpost. This is a nice little bag that looks good on my bikes and the mounting system seems pretty secure. It is a tad smaller than I was expecting, but I can fit a 32mm tube, two large Pedros tire levers (the included tire levers are tiny and probably pointless), a small Crank Bros multitool, patch kit, and Park spoke tool. It's a snug fit but the bag seems well-made and I hope will stand up to use.
