A giant-size presentation of a giant-sized revolution in comic book art.
OVERALL = An important and amazing run of comics gets some deserved special treatment.Simply put, the arrival of Neal Adams in the late 60s changed superhero comics forever. Adams brought a level of realism rarely seen in comics and almost never before in superhero stories. When Stan Lee lured Adams to Marvel from DC, Adams insisted on Marvel's lowest selling title which was the X-Men. Adams wanted wiggle room to play around with layouts and storytelling, something no publisher would risk on a top selling book. The result is this history-making book. What's special about this particular edition is its size. My favorite comic experience of the 1970s was a giant tabloid sized reprint of Neal Adams's Batman comics (the one with Robin laying in front of a grieving Batman). It's more than a reading experience. It puts you right inside the artwork. I didn't know then, but these bigger pages are close(r) to the size they were originally drawn. If you love comic book art as I do, there's no better experience than that!PROS =1. Print quality is superb.2. Page size is close to the giant 1970s "Treasury" size comics. I feel much closer to the artwork, which is why I bought this in the first place.3. Includes valuable extras. Unpublished art, photos of original art, new covers of previous reprints of this material by Neal Adams and Tom Palmer.CONS = None.COMMENTS =1. If you're buying this to read an entire story, flip to the back where you'll find "recap" pages that were added to later reprint editions. Read that then go back to page 1. The story begins an issue or two before this book does but that isn't included because it was drawn by a different artist. And this book exists to celebrate Neal Adams, so that shouldn't stop anyone from buying it.2. This volume isn't really about the writer, Roy Thomas (if it was, you'd get the full run of issues not just Adams's art). But you're also buying some of the best written comics ever made. In the mid-70s when Marvel was considering a new X-Men series, all the young talent wanted the job because they were inspired by what you find right here.Highly, highly recommended! Even if you own the originals (as I do) or already have other reprint editions (as I do).

An excellent showcase of Neal Adams work.
Neal Adams needs no introduction if, like me, you're been a lover of comic books. If you're new to the late great Neal Adams suffice it to say that he was perhaps the most imitated artist in comic books. He also mentored many professionals and fought for creators rights at a time when creators had no rights. Neal Adams undoubtedly earned his place amongst the greats of comic book art. This beautiful edition of his brief but impactful run on the X-Men is both a fitting tribute and a wonderful way to view his work along with Tom Palmer's masterful inking. Roy Thomas' plots kept our band of heroic mutants on the move and a half step away from defeat. I highly recommend this beautiful book.

Superb Collection of a Master Work
Neal Adams' masterful run on the X-Men elevated superhero comic art to grand new heights that redefined the genre for the late 20th century. This is a beautiful "must have" collection.

This is why the X-Men have continued into the 21st century.
It is largely because of these stories (and on the strength of Neal Adams art) that the X-Men exist today. These stories created the need for what would ultimately be the all-new, all-different revival in the 70s.

A CLASSIC in every sense!
Legendary artist NEAL ADAMS didn't stay on the X-MEN long --but it was a classic run! At this larger 9 x 11" size, the fluid, detailed art looks GREAT! Better than I've ever seen it. My only nitpick? I wish the pages were even LARGER!

Trippy Fun!
Neal Adams at his psychedelic best! And the gallery size really showcases his groundbreaking art. Great price for such a beautiful artifact!

Marvel finally found the right format.
Nice and oversized. Not too big that it is hard to look at. Just Neal Adams.Marvel give me more

É grande e bonito.
Tamanho grande de edições de Neal Adams que são muito caras. Os enredos não são dos melhores, mas vale pelo talento de Neal e por ser de uma era inicial dos X-Men.

Good reproduction and size
Wow great to see Neal Adams and Tom Palmer's work at close to the original size they produced it at. The reproduction is crystal clear with original coloring restored well.

Wow, they really got it right, Adams at his best
What is it with Neal Adams and reprints that simply do not look like the originals? Prime examples are the computer colours used for a previous tpb of these stories, or even more horrendous, any of the Batman hardcovers.Well, this oversized hardcover really does do justice to the source material, not only is it pin-sharp, but the colours match, and it looks soooo much better for it. For Adams fans out there, this is simply a must have, even if you have the original comics, the oversized format really brings out the drama. Of course, the stories are no slouch either, Roy Thomas can always be depended on. Buy this before it goes out of print!
