EXCEPTIONAL (WATER) COLOR PENCILS..
Winsor & Newton products are always a cut above when it comes to quality and these pencils are no exception. The are great for younger people learning to draw and use color, they work very well, blend perfectly and the colors remain vibrant. Excellent for adding detail to a painting. You will need a little stiffer brush to move the color around when wetting it. Great value, and the metal box they come in is beautiful as well.

New Product that I hope stays.
Received my pencils earlier than was supposed to. They came in a nice silver tin with 2 plastic trays. Had a hard time finding out answers about these pencils and finely the Company that makes them. Finely received answers. These pencils are wax based and they have been lightfast tested just hasn't got info together to show whether on pencils or site. The colors are brite but really limited except on greys. Not very many pastels either. Colors close to Arteza and Koor I noor. There is a crumbling problem, instead of large chunks coming out these just crumble and some all the way to the color caps, but is limited to certain colors. Other colors have had no breakage. Hope these colors can be replaced. Have let the company know and the company that sells them will let me know. Will update about after I get info These are not real soft or hard. They keep a point, even arrive with one. Color lays down smooth and rich in color. Layer pretty good and blend okay. It can be worked with. They are not as hard as the Artists by Derwent. I'd say Medium. Not as hard as Tombow pencils. There are colors I love. They have names no numbers and color caps not the same as leads though some come close. Would definately buy again if it had more colors. There is a small amount of dust and I mean small, haven't had any smudging. Replaced damaged pencils. Hope they will get their good reviews to continue making them then larger sets.

Too waxy, but workable in some cases
TL/DR: too waxy to replace traditional watercolour paints, but may be good for art that need clearly defined lines.*edited to add photos of a trilobite I painted using Paul Rubens paint with touches up with the black W&N pencil and a photo of Tiny Tony next to his portraits, along with attempted antenna like he would’ve had in life. These are definitely way too waxy to replace paints in the pan or tube as they leave behind pencil marks no matter how light of a touch you use. I’m using Paul Rubens hot press paper on this little sample page I did (I’m no pro artist when it comes to traditional art, though I’ve always loved watercolours- I’ve just little experience with the medium). I however, do think these would be great for things with detail and needing clearly defined shapes, like the little trilobite (living, hence the antennae). The calamite (the tree based on a fossil) didn’t turn out super great with the pencils. With more time put into the pencils and working with them, I think they could turn out better art, but the trilobite I think looks pretty good for having been a 5 minute test doodle with the pencils, despite being a little rough with lines otherwise.I’m not sure what happened, but I got a package with three 24 colour sets for my one purchase of them, but nonetheless, they will be used. I’m not sure I’d recommend them unless you’re doing detailed watercolour work without the use of pens for line art.

Lovely Pencils
Lovely colors and good pigment. These pencils are soft & creamy, and lay down very nicely. They blend and layer well. I just wish they would expand their color palette and add more colors. 48 pencils is a pretty small collection considering today’s market.

Past all 6 tests
I did 6 tests. Colored pencils on 90 lb watercolor paper. 2: wet paper, than color, 3: dipped point in water. 4: shaved color on palette n mixed with water. 5: shaved 2 colors in palette n mixed with watercolor and lastly 6: wet the paint brush with little bit of water and touched the point of pencil. Can I tell you they were smooth on paper. Some colors were blotchy but most went on nicely. I don’t recommend dipping the pencil unless you absolutely need to have a vibrant color to the painting. It ruins the pencil. Let the pencil dry completely. I like the coloring or shaving into a palette. I used a rough nail file for shaving some color. Absolutely beautiful colors. I just ordered the 24 count. It was on sale so I couldn’t resist. Good choice and would recommend this product.

Great, artists' quality pencils
Windsor and Newton are a trusted brand of fine artists' materials for decades, although they are relatively new to the colored pencil market. So I had high expectations for these pencils. So far, they do not disappoint! At $28 for 48 pencils, this price is a STEAL. I'm guessing this is a promotion to introduce their brand to colorists and artists. They hold a point well, so they will feel a bit harder than Prismacolors, more like Polychromos. Very pleasant to work with. I included a coloring I did that was mostly done with them. The blue dress and the skin tones were done with other brands. (I was testing purchases)So far, I haven't experienced any crumbling or breaking leads.Hopefully they will expand their color range, although these do blend pretty well. But of course, we all want MOAR COLORS, lol. If they keep this price point, that would be even better!I'll update my review as I use them more if I develop any issues.

Winsor & Newton and Bruynzeel Design colored pencils
Beware: The Bruynzeel Design colored pencil 48 set is an exact match as Winsor & Newton pencils. The colors, and size of the core and barrel are the same.
