Exactly what I needed for a fraction of the price that jewelry making stores charge
The media could not be loaded. I was looking for something to sharpen my rubber wheels. I am a silver smith specializing in jewelry. It sharpens and shaped my rubber wheels perfectly and seems to be of good quality. It’s lightweight and easy to use. The surface is perfectly flat so you can sharpen your item at a nice knife edge if necessary. All you have to do to clean it up is either run it under water or blow/wipe off the dust. It still works exactly like it did when I got it and that was a few months ago. It’s something small in my workshop that I truly could not live without at this point. I use it daily.Actually, I just discovered that it is separating so maybe some superglue would help. I have dropped it a few times so maybe my fault but either way, I still recommend it because it does work for me

Absolutely worth 8 bucks for some purposes.
Key features to be aware of: 1 Extremely coarse on rough side -- Great for material removal, not intended for honing, etc. 2 Flexible and thin -- may not reliably produce flat faces or straight edges, but also won't break if dropped or struck. My opinion of this item is far better than I would've expected. It may not be ideal for regular knife sharpening but it has performed better and lasted (still lasting) longer than the price would indicate. I use it for quick material removal on hardened steel as well as regularly touching up carbide lathe tools. I write this as I am about to buy 2 more to have handy at work and a friend's machine shop.

The stone I received has scratches on the 600 grit side
Unfortunately, the stone that I received has some deep scratches on the 600 grit side that makes the knife catch. However, the stone works well if working either end of the stone and avoiding the scratches. Using this stone and oil I was able to hon 2 neglected kitchen butcher knives to shaving sharpness in 30 minutes. Keeping a sharp edge with this stone will be a breeze.

I work as a butcher. May of my coworkers find this one to be cheaper and affordable. I make about 9¢ every time I sell one. That's if they pay me without disappearing before they do.😔 Thats on them.

Will sharpen G5 broad heads.
Very nice and flat sharpening bar. Have used on knives and broad heads. Good quality.

Be aware that this is not flat, nor is it rigid. Mine has a visible bow, and it's flexible enough to bow the other way
This is more like diamond sandpaper than a "stone." That is, it's not AS flexible as sandpaper, but similar to sandpaper you are not ever going to be able to FLATTEN with it, unless you back it with something else that holds it flat. That said, this is great for what it is. I had never used diamond stones before; I didn't want to spend $50 * 2 on the "good" diamond stones, so I thought I'd gamble with this. I do not regret it. I was actually shocked with how quickly this cuts -- it's more comparable to the belt sander than any other stone I've used, even the coarsest. In terms of real time spent on the task it is probably just as fast as the belt sander, yet with superior control / less chance of error. So far I've used this to grind out the nicks in a couple knives and to regrind the tip that broke off a knife. I also used it to grind some chisels that were out of square, and to flatten the backs of chisels. These are operations that require removing a lot of metal, and they were accomplished QUICKLY. Great stuff.Initially the scratch pattern left by these stones was pretty intense, but they've gotten much finer very rapidly. That may be considered a flaw or not. In any case I was expecting it, as this is what everyone says about every diamond stone. After "breaking in" the stone, the "fine" side leaves a surface that is pretty decent and a cutting edge that would be acceptable for some purposes. Further honing with even finer stones would be better though and that's what I'm doing (using a water stone).EDIT: It's been a year, and one of the metal plates with the embedded diamonds has completely separated from the plastic interior. The glue failed, I guess as a result of exposure to water. I'm actually still using it though -- or rather, using _them_. For $7.19 (the price a year ago), I can't really complain, but I'm knocking off a star.

Good sharpener for home or travel.
I wanted something small enough to throw in my pack but big enough to sharpen my bigger blades. This works great. There is a coarse and fine side but I mostly use the fine side since I only need to touch up the edge on my blades every so often. I love that it's thin and wide which makes it easy to pack in my hiking pack. I leave it in the cardboard sleeve it came in to keep it clean of debris, but time will tell how long that will last. It works best laying on a flat surface which is one draw back for me since I like to hold my sharpeners in one hand and knife in the other. It's a little too thin for that, but again, that's my own preference. It does tend to slide around on smoother surfaces, so a solid wood workbench or something like that works best. If you love making things, a 1 or 2x4 with leather on both sides can double as a holder and strop giving you a whole sharpening system. The construction seems really solid and robust and the adhesive they used to hold the grit on seems like it'll last for years. After using this stone I usually strop with leather and it leaves my knives razor sharp. Overall a great purchase and great value for the price.

Maybe not the best quality out there
Small but not too small (which is the goal in camping gear, right? ) that 2 sided stone will do the trick.Maybe not the best quality out there, but will still give a wicked edge if you are a little bit patient. And for the price, the overall value of this stone is tremendous !Great first stone to learn about sharpening, or to have a carry on version ! Don't forget your mineral oil ! Good luck ! And youtube can teach you to sharpen !

Well worth the money
Short Version:Good sharpener once it’s broken in. I use it mostly for sharpening folding knives (works very well with S30V and VG10). Works best with medium to light pressure. A little on the small side for home use but a great size for traveling. Great sharpener for the money and recommended to anyone who wants to learn how to freehand sharpen.Long Version:I have been using this stone pretty regularly for about half a year at this point. In that time I have used it to sharpened dozens of knives of several different steels. My findings are that, once properly broken in, it sharpens stainless steels to a very nice toothy edge. Carbon steels are a little harder to get a very aggressive edge with but it will still sharpen them. The edge produced is, as expected, a toothy and aggressive edge. For folding knives and most of my store bought kitchen knives, the edge that this stone gives is perfectly fine but it is by no means a fine edge. (I am also an amateur knife maker and I have some kitchen knives that I made from 1095 high carbon that have a very thin edge and a fine grain structure that I do not sharpen on this stone because I want to maximize the potential of the cutting edge but it should work very well for production kitchen knives.) If I am sharpening a knife that requires a nice polished edge like a sushi knife or a carving knife/chisel, I wouldn’t advise using this sharpener at all. The diamonds can leave very deep scratches even when using light pressure. These deep scratches are very hard to polish out later on and can be hot spots for chipping in a fine edge. That being said, the stone is very good for removing a lot of material quickly. The 400 grit side can give nice tooth to the edge and establishes a burr in only a few passes as long as the knife is not too dull. The 600 grit side is nice for quick touch up jobs or to give an edge a slightly better polish over the 400 grit finish. I wold say that the 400 grit finish is a coarse finish and the 600grit side is a medium finish. Often I will sharpen just on the 600 grit side then finish it off with a strop and some green rouge or sometimes do a few quick passes on my 6000 grit water stone.I find it's best to use the stone with a little water to flush away the ground metal but it'll still work dry just not as quickly. I use medium to light pressure when sharpening. I am usually not removing a lot of material so I don't care so much about going quickly and I've found that medium to light pressure brings the best edge with these stones. I did however notice that if too much pressure is applied when sweeping the edge up to the tip you can scratch some of the diamond coating away leaving lines where there is no abrasive. It's not a big deal but just something to be careful of. I palm sharpen with this stone most of the time so that usually keeps me from using too much pressure. The edge from this stone won’t last an extremely long time when compared to a proper hand sharpening on water stones or good oil stones but it is fast and easy to get a nice sharp edge back. There is also the convenience that it is ready to go and there is really no clean up necessary. I keep mine in a drawer next to my desk and I will just pull it out, do a few quick passes then put it back. Quick and convenient. In terms of how the stone wears over time, it seems to still be cutting very well and is still dead flat even after months of almost daily use. I find myself using it all the time just simply because it’s always ready to go.The size is a little on the small side for home use. I would like something about half an inch wider and an inch or so longer. Never the less, it can still be used for knives from 2 inches long up to a 10 inch chef’s knife and probably more. It is a great choice for a travel pack or for use in some other portable manner where you don’t want to bring along a whole set of stones. Additionally, it is perfectly fine for palm sharpening, which is how I use it most of the time. If you are going to palm sharpen, the stone is not very thick so there’s not much to hold on to so it is very easy to slip and cut yourself. I recommend extreme caution when palm sharpening anything with any stone. Also since the stone is very thin, to table sharpen you’re going to either need to sharpen on the edge of a table or elevate the stone on some type of platform to be able to clear your knuckles from the table unless you’re sharpening a chef’s knife or something like that with a lot of knuckle clearance already. A good option is to sharpen across your body by pacing the long edge of the stone perpendicular to your arms rather than parallel. This way the stone is on the edge of the table closest to you and that gives your hands clearance.Overall the stone is easy to use once it’s broken in. it cuts quickly and it can put a nice aggressive edge on knives and tools. For the price I think it’s a great investment that will be great for taking on trips and using around the house. I have bought several and keep them in different rooms. Like any sharpening method, it takes some time to get used to but once you do it is easy to get a toothy aggressive edge in a short amount of time. I find it most useful for sharpening my folding knives and some kitchen knives. The stone has been wearing well over time and use for me and I am very happy with the performance to price.I definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to try getting into freehand sharpening. It’s not a big investment and it can show results quickly. On the other hand, it will show very easily if you screw up since it takes off so much material. If you’re on the fence, I’d just buy it and cry about the $15 later if absolutely necessary.
